tomato sauce for pasta pizza etc

Hi Big Momma - I used to put loads of veg into the kids tomato sauces - just blitz it up and mix in with the tomatoes - literally any that you have. Have you tried roasting veg? My kids love sweet potato and butternut squash chips!0

i replied here to a similar post last night - ill merge your thread in there later once you get some more input
You can freeze pasta sauce, when you are heating it up just heat it up like normal - ensure it's piping hot
I would take it out of the fridge the night before you want to use it and let it defrost.
freezer containers may help - use anything. Old marg tubs? Tupperware lined with plastic? then remove the box once frozen ? Freeze in portions as you would use it.
hope that helps, sorry, tired today so that was a wick answer

The hand-blender can become your very best friend for sneaking veg into kids. Grated carrots can be slipped into almost anything which has a sauce or gravy. In order for your tomato-based sauce for pasta to not be too bland I'd always start by sweating off onion and celery as normal.0

sweet potato/grated carrot/butternut squash/grated courgettes are all veg that i blitz into tomato pasta sauce to fool the kids
I also used to mash tinned sardines or tinned mackerel into tomato ketchup and tell the kids they were having a ketchup sarnie ... fooled em every time, especially if you bung a bit of grated cheese on it as well :beer:wading through the treacle of life!

mines is tin of chopped toms (Mr T's blue white stripe is cheapest and has less ingredients than their own label = less chemicals, or the whole plum toms!) some seasoning, what ever veg i have, clove or 4 of garlic (i like garlc lol) , near end of simmering, i taste adn add some paprika for a 'smokier' taste... sometimes i add chilli flakes for a bit of a kick... add chopped up sausage like mathiesons (but a lidl make) chop it up small and looks like millions, pour in the middle of a plate of pasta
if i remember tomorrow, i'll get u my actual recipe for a kids book, which was my basis.
ive moved from tins of toms, to btls of passata, i can use what i need now instead of a whole tin for 1 adult and 1 child, we always have loads left over... found Mr t's organic glass btl to be the best price
of forgot to say, add a tea spoonful of sugar to combat the acid from the tomsLiving Simply, not simply living.Weight Loss - 5b/55lb

Looking for the best things to add to homemade tomato sauce to make a creamy tomato sauce for pasta. Usual New Years resolution, so don't want lots of cream! Do you use Philly, Quark, Mascarpone or milk or anything else?0
-
Philly will do the job for you - flavoured ones can be very nice x0

I too would put in low fat soft cheese gives it a nice creamy texture and tones down the acidity tomatoes sometimes have.
Usually cheaper then the likes of mascarpone although this would also work well

Mascarpone with garlic, mmmmmmmmmmm
Works out cheaper than buying the ready-made sauces, even though it is mascarpone.

cream cheese - I like aldi full fat soft cheese - almost as rich as mascapone - though probably not very healthy!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.
