Gently fry some onions, garlic, thinly sliced carrots, courgette, peppers or whatever you fancy for a good ten minutes on a low heat. Add a tin of chopped tomatoes warm through and then blitz in a processor.
  • I have the same problem with my son, I cook the mince and sauce in different pans, put whatever veggies you want in the sauce cook when soft whiz a portion then pass through a seive and mix with the mince. You can then carry on cooking both smooth and chunky bolognaise's

You could try grated the veg in and pop it in once the mince has browned... The veg will soften up and the texture will be much less noticeable... This way you can start introducing them as tiny cubes later so she gets used to veg ;)
  • This is what I do:

Chop an onion and brown in a little oil, grate in some carrot, courgette and butternut squash. Add a pinch of basil, 1 tsp of balsamic vinegar and 1 tsp of sugar (not essential but gives a bit more flavour). Add 2 tins of chopped tomatoes and simmer slowly for 1 hour. The slow cooking breaks everything down so you shouldnt need to use a food processor.

This makes a great pizza topping or pasta sauce and my kids love it, they have no idea there is veg in it. It freezes really well too.
  • my daughter has the same prob with her two boys. she blitzes veg and puts it in the mash!!!! pink mash goes down a storm. (toms) cauliflower they cant even tell its there. blitz cooked veg - anything - and mix with raw mince to make burgers.

after a while you will develop many ways to hide it all!!! soup is the best way of course, with toasted soldiers to dip in.
  • Mine changes each time. Always has tinned tomatoes, onions, garlic, grated carrot, herbs and a pinch of sugar(depending on tomatoes as some contain lots). The rest is anyones guess, I will hide anything that needs using up into it. I tend to make it when there are things that are going soft, one pan of sauce on the go, one soup as you have to be in the kitchen anyway :)
  • When mine was little I used to juice all the veggies I wanted to hide and then put the pulp and the juice back together - instant camouflage!

ive merged this with our pasta sauce thread. All you need to do is blend it down, and pass through a sieve if you really want no lumps - but that is very tedious!

Any devious ideas for hiding veggies? may also help as should Five portions a day? &

  • I am always hearing about how u can sneak lots of veg into a pasta sauce, with a tinned tomato base but i am actually going to try it lol!!

So, can i have a recipe please? I know i could google, but i would like something tried and tested by your kids :D My little boy is 6 and he eats next to no veg at all now (used to be great at eating fruit and veg but then he went to school and only wants "naughty" foods lol!!) so i need to know which veg i can sneak in (so i guess nothing that tastes too strong?) and how i prepare it first etc....
Also, i wanna know if i can freeze it, how i freeze it, how i reheat etc etc!:o

    Thanks in advance!
Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?
