Absolutely gorgeous from the chippy round the corner from me! Can i say i'm quite addicted to them :o

I had a heart attack (really) last year maybe I should write to my MP and try and get them banned to save the few of us who will die and in the process thus spoil your enjoyment...or are you happy to make an informed choice? Maybe the Chipmaster should be charged with ensuring your health and ban you?

Perhaps they did so perhaps they need further training. Even if this was the case the store has still failed in its duty of care towards the customer.
How would you differentiate between someone who spends hundreds of pounds because they are a compulsive gambler and someone who spends hundreds of pounds because they're rich and enjoy what is (to them) a small flutter?

I don't agree with you that you can identify a compulsive gambler purely on the amount wagered.

That fulfills one aspect of the regulations, but I have never seen a sticker refuse a problem gambler the right to make a transaction in their shop or indeed identify them and ban them.

Maybe you have never seen someone that the staff feel is a problem gambler?

Google 'Graham Calvert' - the High Court dismissed his claim against William Hill that they had failed in their duty of care towards him. Case closed! :p

Yes that case was closed, would you close the case if I went on a binge accross the UK armed with a hidden camera, mic and debit card and seen how many of those shops tried to stop me if i simulated the tell tale signs of a problem. If I took that to court do you think I would win or lose?

My ex would give little reaction when he lost. However I have seen top flight footballers near to tears when they have lost an equivalent bet (albeit not in a high street bookies). Who has the problem there?
  • Sounds like a good post-night-out snack :p

    Yes it is!
Cheers to that trusty wee chip shop!

She didn't have half a story she had a few choice words by yourself, a shop worker can build up their own story by observation of behaviour over a period of time in the shop. The staff are expected to make these observations if they are to comply with the regulations set out by the gambling commission.

They have charged the bookmaker with doing the identifying, so by default they must think it is possible right? Or do you think they have made that particular regulation for the sake of regulations sake?

You keep saying regulation when its NOT a regulation. It is a Code of Practice. Completely different.

You keep saying the staff should have noticed your problem. We've asked how staff would notice a problem like this and the ONLY thing you've given in response to that is the amount of money you were betting in a day.

The betting amount - as we've tried to explain - is not proof of an addiction. It is completely unique to the individuals disposable income and circumstances.

You're blaming your addiction on your mental disorder and it is highly unlikely that betting shop staff are trained and qualified psychologists!

A court will decide on the facts of the case in question - they will have no interest in some kind of 'sting operation'. If you do go down that route you are likely to end up being classed as a vexatious litigant.

Betting until your card gets declined then moving onto the next might be an indicator. Or the fact I get flustered and start complaining to the staff about the machines having to be fixed after it rolled in black 15 times in a row when I was doubling on red. Pacing and increased agression too. But of course unless I had a camera crew following me how could I ever prove this? The answer is I cannot, which is why the current regs/CoP whatever is useless.
