So now, once again, you seem to be saying that the best option would be to ban gambling.michael1983l wrote: »I have now written to my local MP. The rules are falwed like you mentioned and could be cleared up at minimum. At best like you say gambling could be banned but I suspect many would disagree with that. I would settle for regulations that actually hold some weight rather than the meaningless ones in force now. They are simply not worth the paper they are written on.
I thought I had explained that a ban on gambling would simply drive the industry underground.
This would not be the best thing.
There would simply be no regulation at all, and the way would be open for the vulnerable to be exploited at will.
Please be careful what you wish for.0 -

If there was no boolie on the highstreet then I would never have gotten into gambling. There is a double edged sword here, would taking away the temptation force many to drop the habbit and only the few would go underground or would the masses find their way. I think you would probably find that most would just give up any serious level of gambling.0 -

Have you discussed any of this little crusade with your medical team?
Is it any of your business if I have or not, taht is the second time you have asked that question. Is that question intended to discredit my opinion, yes of course it is. are you involved in the bookmaker industry, well I am begining to suspect so as you have spent the last 10 hours defending the bookmaker.0 -

Since you used this comparison earlier.......if heroin was provided on the NHS and then the provision via NHS stopped........do you think people would simply quit being addicts?
How many people would watch horse races if there was no betting allowed? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
The people who would go to underground books would be the most vulnerable - who are so desperate they would be willing to resort to loan sharks to fund their next bet and to hell with their house/car/legs. The majority would likely stop gambling, but those are more likely to be the casual bettors who don't greatly care either way, they just like a bit of a flutter every now and again.michael1983l wrote: »If there was no boolie on the highstreet then I would never have gotten into gambling. Ironically, by banning gambling you're potentially making it worse for the addicts.Competition wins: Where's Wally Goody Bag, Club badge branded football, Nivea for Men Goody Bag0 -

Addicts will find a way to feed their addiction. Have you seen the number of online gambling sites?0 -

It is being asked because you should be seeking help.0 -

You have absolutely no idea how many posters accuse others of working for the company/industry they're raging against just simply because the poster/s disagree with them.
So far i think i work for a dozen or more companies. I must sue them for non-payment of wages in that case.

No, I ask the question because it is clear that you are not thinking rationally at present, and as such telling your GP/ CPN etc what you are feeling would hopefully get you the help you need.
My only involvement in the gambling industry is that I used to do matched betting. I also have an ex (still a good friend) who has a gambling addiction.0 -

somebody asked my opinion if I would ban them, my answer was yes. Howeverthat is not what I am trying to do as I clearly know that will never happen, simply the government makes too much tax revenue on gambling to ever consider this.
However creating legislation that does not allow the bookmaker to decide on what is acceptable levels of gambling is not impossible and also closing up the grey areas in the current legislation would go some way too.
At the moment they might as well remove the Social Repsonsibility Section of the Licensing Conditions because it is effectivly useless. I bet not one single bookmaker has ever been charged by the commission on this matter.0
