Tesco Special Offers

JSAmeds - this is my point too.... we are lead to believe that they are giving us a special deal and that the prices are good, but without much time and numeracy skills it is very hard to get the best deal in the same shop. I believe it's about time this was hilited. We are trying to save money.
i dont know what hilited means but you did save money - 20 pence."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -

I agree, it's usually easy and Mysupermarket makes it very easy. But Tesco don't do the per unit price for multibuy offers. So it's a case of standing there and checking those.0 -
Sounds to me like the 160 tea bags for £3 is an offer that Tesco is running. The other offer of buy 80 get 100% free sounds like an offer being run by Yorkshire Tea as the package has been specially made.
I assume that in the store you were at they still had some of the buy 80 get 100% boxes in which is why they were on sale. Most Tesco deals are national deals so they would have to have their own deal in store, even though there was the (better) Yorkshire tea deal as well.
Personally I don't see it anything to get upset about. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Then they are doing precisely what they set out to do. A retailers business model is to make money - not give you the cheepest choice.
Also as mentioned - sometimes the manufacturers themselves make the offer ( i.e. x% free ).
Product placement is also key here - never assume that the "end of isle" bargains are the best. You should always go and check the rest of the shelves.
Of course, sometimes the retailers simply get it wrong.
However, I do agree that the price per unit/weight/item/etc should be a lot more consistant“That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing.”0 -

Nope. I buy 2litre bottles of Coca-Cola every week. This week I needed my calculator.
They were either; Buy two get one free at £1.78 a bottle
or
Buy a pack of four 2 litre bottle for £5.91
The cost per unit was shown on the buy two get one free as if you were buying one bottle. I had to work out what they cost per bottle using the calculator on my mobile phone.
Often, they will have a big "Special Offer" sign above the Coke, and it's cheaper to buy the 4 pack.

A couple months ago I was in my local T's..at the end of the fruit aisle the is a small fridge & they had a pack of 4 chicken breasts for £3.00...At the bottom of the meat aisle where they have the offers, they had the exact same chicken on offer at £4.00. (same package, dates ect)
So at that price I went & got another pack of chicken..0 -

And there are laws about misleading the consumer, whilst supermarkets may make mistakes from time to time they spend a lot of money studying your habits and psychology to ensure once you are through the door you spend as much as possible, with supermarket pricing a lot of it seems designed to be confusing, dishonest (edging up prices and then claiming buy 1 get 1 free being a prime example) and against the general perception of bigger pack = better value.
Regardless of the wrongs and rights of the offer the OP has mentioned, it has under-minded their confidence as a consumer which isn't something a retailer should be doing. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
