Tesco Special Offers

Hi, I have just been to my local store and saw Yorkshire teabags 160 on special offer at £3 (may have even been a little more). A little further around the store and I see Yorkshire teabags 80's with 100% free, so 160 teabags, at £2.80. Both displays were end of aisle displays - different prices for essentially the same product . This makes me so cross.

Well there's no need to get cross you got the best deal so you should be happy for Tesco's mistake saving you money"If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0

It's not the same product - you may get the same quantity, type and brand, but one is buy 80 get 80 free and the other is buy 160.
The same happens all the time with multi packs of beans for example:

I had to get the calculator out to find out which was the cheapest.0 -
I wouldn't expect to trawl the store for every item on my shopping list just in case Mr T has stocked essentially the same item in more than one place at a different price. They are playing games with us.0

No, they're not. They're an enormous corporation selling hundreds of thousands of products at forever varying prices and at the very worst this is a mistake, although it's more likely that this discrepancy is due to two slightly different and overlapping offers.

A while back I was buying lager, all the Stella range was on offer at a different price.
20 pack for x
2 packs of 10 for y
4 pack for z
It was like a maths exam trying to figure out which was cheaper!
In the end the cheapest had sold out0 -

The labels should say price per unit if you look closely enough. I'm not sure what the unit will be for booze, perhaps 100ml. But if you look at all the labels, regardless of overall price, you should be able to see the comparative price."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

You'd think that would be the case, but it's not.
One will say 'per can' another will say 'per 100ml, and another will say per litre'.
With foods you can substitute 'per item', 'per kg' and per '100g'.
If you've managed to work that out they will throw in a BOGOF, '3 for 2' or '4 for 3' offer in for extra confusion.
If your brain hasn't melted by this point, you'll notice some of them aren't even correct:

JSAmeds - this is my point too.... we are lead to believe that they are giving us a special deal and that the prices are good, but without much time and numeracy skills it is very hard to get the best deal in the same shop. I believe it's about time this was hilited. We are trying to save money.0

Nightmare!
But don't be cross, jollyme - just stop shopping at Tesco

Maybe cross is a little strong, sorry. I'd like to think I could go shopping to buy items from my list without the need to endlessly calculate and annotate and search for deals that don't conflict with other deals within the same shop. I am indeed able to do all this but many are not and those people deserve the moneysaving deals just as we all do. I often do shop elsewhere and then occasionally drift into my Tesco store and, like this morning, I then remember why I try to avoid.0
