Advice on jsa please ?

Hi , I'm looking for some advice regarding our situation.
I'm currently signed off work with stress (work related) my GP has not had a problem signing me unfit for the last 10 weeks , and will continue to do so for the near future as he agrees my stress / anxiety is definately work related.
However It's highly unlikely I am going to return to my current employer
(they would make my life hell , and at the first chance would sack me)

I don't want to be signed off indefinately , and wan't to find another job , but I'm worried regarding getting any jsa , my GP will back me up 100% regarding the stress issue as good cause for leaving the job .

I have read alot about sanctioning jsa if you become voluntarily unemployed , If they refuse my claim for jsa , would we be entitled to anything else (income support or simalar)

There is me and the mrs (not working looking after new baby)
2 school age kids , and above mentioned baby.
We live in rented accom , and claim ctc and a small amount of wtc along with some hb and ctb.

So any helpful advice would be appreciated , Please don't start bleeting on about not leaving a job etc , as no job is worth your health.
I just want the facts please , thankyou.

any claim to JSA where a person has left a job will have to be submitted to the adjudication officer who will make a decision after looking at the full details of the case. at a new claim you will be issued with a form to complete giving your full reasons for leaving the job, you can also submit details from your doctor with this if you like, in thisf form you must be explicit in everyway - medication etc, the more comprehensive details the better. Until it is decided by the adjudication officer no one will be ale to give you a hard and fast answer as all claims are considered on their own merits and you will probably hear the phrase "justifiable cause" more than once hth

As above, but generally speaking a decision maker would wonder why you couldn't remain in your employment until you had found more suitable employment

I don't want to end up on ssp , or even worse esa for a long time , I'd rather just look for a new job.
So should I just stay signed off until they sack me ? Just thought it would be best to do it the other way around .

if you are sacked the JCP will write out to your employer for the reason and this can be a long drawn out affair depending on your ex-employer and what they say and how long they take to reply.
am afraid the decision is yours and after working in the system for the last **** years i know which i would do - but again you have to make your own decision.

your GP has no way of knowing for definate that any stress you have is work related, they only have your word for that, so on that point your flogging a dead horse...

If you leave a job of your own accord you may be subject to up to 26 weeks JSA sanction, regardles of what you can get your GP to agree with.

I'd think with a wife and 3 kids to support, you could man up a bit until you find another job...

If you've been looking for another job for the last 10 weeks, do you think that it's going to be easy to find another one?

wondered how long it would be before someone popped up with a wise comment - As far as "manning up" goes , you have no idea regarding my circumstances at work , I just want the facts please , not your opinion .
To the other's who answered so promptly , thankyou.

I've not been looking for another job for the last 10 weeks , I've been unfit for work , now I'm feeling better , but I'm not going back to square one again.

To bad matey, it's an open forum and you will get comments you probably don't want to hear.

The best option is to look for another job whilst your still in this one unless you want your family to suffer the financial connotations of you quiting a job because your "stressed"
