You're all falling for a classic divide and conquor strategy from the government based on nothing but lies. As a consequence everyone blames everyone else except the real culprits.
Those who earn above average blame the lower earners who have their wages topped up.
Those who earn that blame the people on JSA , Disability ect
Those on JSA and alike blame immigrants...and so on.
The real culprits are those who have syphoned the countries money, sold peoples jobs down the river, destroyed perfectly well run companies just to make a quick buck. We arent talking about what you and I call big earners like Mr 50K or even Mr 100K salary. We are not talking the entrepeneur who has set up a company and employs people and contributes to society (they deserve their wealth) We are talking those who contribute nothing and take millions upon millions. They dont add value, they dont work, they dont produce anything they are where they are because of who they know....they perpetuate a myth that a company must increase profit year on year and if "profits are down 25% (sounds bad) people are thrown on the scrap heap. The thing is "profits are down" isnt bad, they have still profited. Profits are down 25% can mean the company only makes 750 million rather than 1 billion...so F***ing what they have still made a fortune However you will still be expended because the top of the tree have to report increasingly better news to keep the myth and the lie going for their own gain. And when it goes wrong, who cares. The country will pay, and the plebs will pay with reduced services, increased tax and be expected to live of reduced income.
Its bad enough that ity happens but to then blame each other for it is bordering on moronic.Salt0 -
I note the OP has a student loan. So you must have gone to uni full time. How did you manage that, what with working full time?Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.
Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.

I dont quite know if you are complementing her wandering how she has managed it or questioning if she is truthfull or not.
If its the latter, I can guarentee you that you can do both. You can obtain a student loan to study via the OU thus being a full time worker and doing a degree. Even if you go to a conventional uni you can have a fair bit of time off and work many hours during that. Many do it out of need.Salt0 -

My friend, as a mature student who had worked for years, and had a mortgage etc to pay, worked & studied FT.
She was a FT student, at a red brick University, and working her previous [spread over 5 days] job with NHS24, working 12 hour shifts; Friday/ Saturday/ Sunday night.
Full time Uni doesn't usually mean Mon - Fri 9-5 attendance.
ETA: just realised I replied to you, and not the post above yours. Sorry.0 -
OK, now for my story, before I head to bed.
OP, I can totally understand your frustrations, as I had them once myself.
I became ill, 8 years ago, aged 27. I had always worked, albeit part time, since I was 16 at School, then Uni, and full time before my graduation. I was lucky that I had a "proper" job lined up to start before I'd even got my results.
Anyway, fast forward a few years; I'd bought my flat when I was 25, had a fab job that not only paid the bills, but I loved, had a great social life (hindsight shows it was a wee bit too good), thought nothing of paying £150 for a duvet cover set from John Lewis etc...
Then... illness struck.
Thought I was prepared. Afterall I had my mortgage cover that'd also cover my wages, in the event of redundancy - didn't dream for a minute I'd take ill.
You can imagine the shock I got when I was refused? Depite having a diagnosis [at the time] of M.E., they refused me for not declaring a minor knee injury I sustained, aged 16, in a car crash. To be fair, it was no more than badly bruised, but obviously went on my medical records. It was so insignificant, I'd forgotton all about it. I only went to A&E that night on the insistence of the Police.
So, I had no income, mortgage arrears, and only entitled to SSP (about £50 a week, at the time), which had since run out.
I turned up at the DWP - they had places in those days where you could apply for benefits, I assume that's now the BDC??
There I am, feeling like crap anyway, at the thought of begging for money.
In the que I "meet" the most stereotypical Neds you've ever seen - clothed, head to toe in Kappa, young lassie with 3 kids in tow, the boyfriend on first name terms with the security guard. Boasting how the 'Giro' they're about to receive, for beds, a cooker etc, will be spent on Buckie & weed. I wanted the ground to open up & swallow me, I felt dirty stood next to them.
Anyway, it transpired I was entitled to IB. That was also about £50 a week at the time. I was only entitled to this because I had been paying NI for years, otherwise I would've got IS; mortgage interest paid after 39 weeks, prescriptions, full council tax benefit... yadda yadda...
Don't get me wrong, a couple of years later, someone encouraged me to apply for DLA. I didn't have the energy, but they insisted. :T
DLA then entitled me to an IS top up, so at least I knew 39 weeks later my interest would be covered & the roof over my head would finally be safe.
I had rattled up £thousands in debt, just to keep myself here, with no way of seeing a way out, and the only thing keeping me warm at night was my increased blood pressure at the thought of that crowd I'd met, living rent/worry free.
However, it's not worth it. :-) As I've since discovered, now that I'm finally working again, granted part time, but working. lol
I now feel sorry for anyone who has never had to work for their worth, but are fully capable of doing so, and have had it given to them. I wouldn't wish that on anyone, I'm glad I had my work ethic to strive towards all these years, otherwise I dread to think what state I'd be in now - healthwise.
The Govt created a load of Co-dependents, and now they're turfing them out on their ear. These people won't have clue how to manage for themselves, and that saddens me. :-(
ETA: apologies, didn't mean to write my memoirs, got a wee bit carried away. lol0 -
Silly me, spent all those years working, trying to be a decent person....!
Yes you are silly, however you are not a dceent person.
Do you really believe all those stories in the gutter press that you read about people on benefits living the life of riley?
As for putting in all your life and not taking out.
Where were you educated?
Have you never used the NHS?
Where will your children go to school?
Do you not use roads, schools and the basic infra structure that the rest of us do?
It is so tiresome hearing the same c*** spouted. Is this not a board for advice on benefit entitlement, not an opportunity to benefit bash.
I would have thought there might be some out there who had the intelligence to do some impartial research instead of ceding to government propoganda.
Seems I was wrong.0 -

My parents paid tax their whole lives for me to be educated etc, as my tax contributions will pay for my childrens.
If you would like to read my original post correctly, it was not started as a purpose to benefit bash. I was merely asking if the rumours I have heard to the proposed changes were true and it has since developed as such.
All I can say is, if you do not think that I am a decent person for contributing to society etc in the best way that I can by working hard and a lot. You must have a very warped view of what you think a decent person is. Obviously being on benfits your whole, life, or maybe I should committ tragic crimes and go to prison, then your estimations of me will rise!0 -
