I love this idea - I look forward to seeing what other national awareness days everyone can find. (I'll give the red squirrels a miss though, if you don't mind - the poor critters have enough problems without a load of OSers eating them! :rotfl:)
But guess what the 9 – 16 Oct is not only National Curry week – but Bramley Apple Week, Chocolate Week and British Egg Week, so I challenged myself to getting all of them into my weekly plan (not all in the same dish – but I would congratulate anyone who can)

I can't manage all of those in one dish (tbh I wouldn't want to manage chocolate in anything _pale_ ;)) but, in exchange for that lovely noodle recipe, how about an egg curry? This is a great favourite of mine - I usually replace the frozen peas with whatever green veg is in season at the time.

I guess you could follow it with a pear and chocolate cake if you so wished. ;)
Back after a very long break!
  • Same as me I hate the large prawns, think its in my mind set - they always seem soooooooo chewy, no matter how I cook them, whereas the smaller are much more palatable and tasty.

Think its a childhood thing with me, along with an easy gag reflex :rotfl:

I think its the same with hubby.. he was brought up on kiddies food like chicken nuggets ect, never had prawns or anything! but he is sooo much better than when i first met him, he will eat the little ones now and alot more than chicken nuggets!x

Have to say I wasn't brought up on that kind of food, but if I was given lumpy custard, semolina pudding, even lumpy dry mashed potatoes - it made me gag - sorry if anyone is put off by this :rotfl:

aww, me and my sisters used to be made to eat some yucky things by our very frugal, strict grandma, so my sister now hates baked beans and salmon sarnies amongst other things! lol!xx

I'm disappointed - I was sure you'd find this thread on squirrel recipes :p:D
Unfortunately this week (1 – 9 October) is Red Squirrel Week and although I am aware that squirrel meat (hopefully grey) is becoming more available, but I'll give it a miss.

Gee thanks Penelope Penguin :rotfl:, I was trying to forget the days when I was a lot younger and lived next door to the local Estate Gamekeeper, OK we got a good supply of rabbits, pheasants and the odd hare or two but I do draw the line at squirrel - who can tell their colour once the skin is removed.

If I were being offered squirrel I'd prefer that the skins were still on, I may be a greying strawberry blonde - but no redheads allowed here:rotfl:

Actually I think an expert could easily tell a red and grey squirrel apart - a red squirrel would need to be a superfit athlete squirrel to be mistaken for a grey one naked, I think.

Then again it's hard to find a squirrel expert when you need one!

I understand you only eat the legs, which doesn't sound like a very economic use of meat. I guess you'd get a good stock from the rest.

I hope it doesn't get so bad that I need to eat squirrel, I particularly like even the grey ones.
