O2 mobile and free BT OpenZone wi-fi access
Hi All,
I have an O2 mobile (smartphone) with data access - data over mobile works (GPRS) but *not* BT OpenZone wi-fi which is supposed to be included free.
After a long struggle I now have access to The Cloud's wi-fi hotspots which should have been included but also did not work.... until today. O2 made some resetting changes at their end. Its taken since July to get this to work!
Has anyone got BT OpenZone to work free with their O2 mobile? Has anyone got their O2 mobile to connect via the BT OpenZone at a Starbucks?
Thanks, Roy

Yes I have, but via my btinternet account.0

I used to have problems with both until i used the reset wifi link and since then it seems to work majority of the times.
With openzone i think it depends on whether its one from a fon router or a proper openzone router as to whether it can be connected to.0 -
Very few BT Openzones are included in the "free" access for O2 customers.. It is a bit of a con if you ask me..0

I have the same problem, apparently only two htc phones are supported by BT Openzone, I called o2 and asked why they are still advertising and selling these phones with "Free" wifi when it's most obviously not the case, they need to be taken to task on this issue, selling contract phones with small internet packages knowing full well that smart phones will eat through the quota, and then they will charge you a fortune for extra data.
Poor show o2.0 -

Poor show o2.
As asked in the post above yours, how are you trying to connect?
It seems you are all whinging about it, but it's a secret of how you are trying to connect, I fear it is user error rather than the networks at present.0 -
I located an openzone where I work, when the wifi connects it takes you to the sign in page, there is a drop down menu to pick your provider (o2), a new page then opens and asks you to insert your mobile number and hit enter, after that nothing happens, the page never moves.
I called o2 twice about this, one guy reset my wifi and told me it should be fine, but when I called back today, the o2 staff told me that the phones have to be enabled via a manufacturer software update, and as yet only two HTC mobiles were on their (o2's) list of approved devices, and as such I will not be able to connect until HTC & o2 add the sensation to their list of devices.
Dialaphone and others are selling this phone with the "Free unlimited wifi" as a selling point, so I am amazed there are not more people on here complaining.0 -

So what happens if you enter your O2 email address?
I'm surprised if so many of you are not getting it to work, why you are so reluctant to try the BTopenzone/Fon app as you have nothing to lose.
The trouble with the way you are trying to log in is fine for laptops/netbooks but not so fine for mobile phone /ipod type devices, a guy in our office had similar issues with his ipad, put the app on, and presto!0 -
Thanks, I was unaware there was an android app like this, I will search for it tonight, and if I can download it I will try tomorrow and report back.0

The app is call BT FON and works for both FON and Openzone, I have it on my HTC wildfire and it works as it should, I also have a similar app on my ipod touch, but on the symbian handset I use handywii,
Good luck :beer:0
