thinking of switching to sky broadband and telephone

Hi all,
We are thinking of switching to sky broadband and telephone, i was just wondering if anyone would recommend or advise against this?
We currently have our TV with Sky, the main reason for bringing the others is price - broadband is currently with Virgin Media but we do not have our TV with them so it works out to be fairly expensive although the speed is obviously awesome.
Our telephone is primus for about 2 years now and they were very cheap to begin with but have raised prices and when we had a problem last month, it took ages to get someone to even speak to to try and resolve the issue.
I was going to give them a call and see if they can give us a deal, e.g. half price for six months. Has anybody used their 'switcher service' and can recommend it?
Thanks very much

You need to go to https://www.samknows.com first to see if the Sky broadband is available in your exchange,if it isn't then it'll be the resold BT Wholesale product, which is dire.0

As long as it's the Unlimited it should be fine, probably not as good as cable but depends what speed you were getting.Yep checked and it is available.
Good offer with sky at the moment 6 months half price bb and £50 topcashback.
I've been using Sky Unlimited for past 16 months and connect around 18Mb no complaint from me.0 -

Yep was going to go with unlimited. With virgin it is obviously faster but i use a wireless router and that is downstairs while my computer is upstairs (only have one cable access point in the house, whereas wit hthe sky i will be able to connect direct to the socket as i have one in the room so i think i should not notice the speed difference too much.0 -
I recently took the plunge and added Sky Talk and Line rental to my Sky broadband.
Before you move from BT get an estimate of any contract exit charges you may be liable for.
The transfer from BT was seamless, and got regular updates on progress on Mysky.
You can pay your 12 months line rental with Sky up front, this costs £119.40 and is a good saving, however I couldn't see how to do this on line so gave them a call to sort it.
Make sure you add the Caller display and 1571 options (both free).
Broadband remains the same but the login changes from PPPoa, to MER, which would make it even more difficult to use a third party router. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

Which Sky won't provide anything aside from basic troubleshooting for.(ie- contact the manufacturer)0 -

Hi Spike, I'm thinking of going with Sky, did the Samknows check and it seems Sky are in my local exchange. Can you just explain a bit on if it had been resold BT Wholesale, why it is not so good? Not well up on these matters! Thanks0 -
Simple answer isCan you just explain a bit on if it had been resold BT Wholesale, why it is not so good?
1.Sky don't offer the higher speed even if your exchange is capable they limit to 8 Mb
2.Main problem,Sky purchase the bandwidth from BT but not enough, leading to higher contention and lower speeds at busy times0 -
The above is correct assuming Sky have not LLU'd your exchange.
Samknows should list Sky/Easynet as an LLU operator if they have.
Sky have their own optical network that they run independently of BT (Ipsaris), however this is not available at small exchanges. That gum you like is coming back in style.0
