camera for my car.
I wonder if anyone has some advice for me. My neighbours and my cars are having our wiper blades ripped off frequently, twice this week thursday and last night. It has been happening for a fair while now. Police say they think it is someone different every time ( drunks ) , but I am not so sure, surely no one road is this unlucky. Can anyone tell me if there is some form of camera that could go in my car on the dashboard that would not cost a fortune that I could install ? Any help gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

This is what I found previously.

What I want is something more sophisticated which records onto a huge hard disk, giving an effective permanent record. The individual components are quite cheap but how you put them together and using what software I do not know.
You need to be able to film the scum outside your car as well as inside etc.0 -
There are a fair few different types available, this is just one example:

and there is a thread all about these cameras here:

However I can see one problem with what you plan.
If they are not drunks doing it, they may well notice it and apart from losing the wipers, you may well also end up with a smashed window when they take the camera.
If it's possible, you would probably be far better off putting a camera somewhere outside of the car where it can't be seen but where it have a good view.0 -

Highly unlikely. It will be the same group of moronic kids every time. Can you fit a camera to yours or a neighbours house?0 -

Does anyone have one of these?
How long can they record for on a 64Gb card? can you use them for time lapse to extend the amount of time?0 -
The issue i see with that is the cycle recording in 1,2,3,4 or 5 minute slots. After that time it can take several
seconds to save the clip, I was watching reviews on some of these cameras on youtube. One guy commented
on the fact one one camera had completely missed an incident because of the way it saves clips.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Erm any reason why you can't remove the wipers when you park up for the night?
Remember watching a documentry on cars in Russia. Motorists would remove the wipers because they were frequently stolen.Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problemsWell at least i learn something on the way

If you have a view of your car from a bedroom window, you may be able to use a HD Webcam as a security device.
I have one permanently connected to an old laptop, on the mains, looking at my driveway, and I use software called AirCam that detects movement and records 5 minute segments of video to the HDD.
AirCam is also an iPhone App, so after setting it up, you can receive notifications of events, and even watch live video over the web. You can set the sensitivity for movement too, in case there's trees in the shot and its windy.
Most in-car cameras and large recording media will have power requirements, and you won't want these connected to your vehicle battery overnight, so setting up a re-chargeable battery pack just for such a camera and storage will increase the overall cost.
Then there's the picture resolution, if you don't use a HD camera you might find that the images aren't of sufficient quality to prove an identity in a Court, making your choice of an in-car system limited, particularly as HD video uses a lot more storage space.
It might be worth fitting a dummy camera somewhere prominent, plus associated warning signs, to deter the snatching of wiper blades.0 -

Lady up the road tried that, so they bent her wing mirror back instead, so I have thought about that, but it is cheaper to replace a wiper blade than a wing mirror, and to be honest I would not put it past these scumbags to key the cars if we all took our blades off, or just bend the wiper arms
