My 6.5yo DS started wetting his pants but no obvious reason why...?

My DS was 4+ when we potty-trained him - various reasons for this that are too long to go into...
But that was over 2 years ago now and he's been dry during the day ever since.
Last week he wet himself 3 times but he's been dry for last 6-7 days then wet himself twice yesterday evening and once today.
I've wondered about a bladder infection or something like that but he doesn't have any symptoms of this like pain when weeing or lower abdominal pain, etc.
There have been no traumatic or dramatic changes (like new baby, new home, new school, etc) in his life or to those around him so can't put it down to that either.
At a loss what to do really so wondered if any of you luvverly MSE peeps could help?

Worried about school? Not like one of the kids there or a teacher scares him? Frightened over something he watched on the tele? Had a bad dream? Heard something that has worried him?

UTI don't always have pain with them, so get him off to the doc with a sample. As victory says it could be one of any number of things (including worms, actually :eek:) , or just one of those things. DD had a phase of bedwetting at the start of Year 1 but it soon resolved itself.

Is it possible that any of the factors that meant he was 4+ when he was potty trained are coming in to play again ?

very few urine infections will have abdominal pain, pain when passing urine. is there any smell when he is passing urine? also has he got any viral infection-which can cause them to have accidents. My DD still has accidents at night go for ages without anything but then it starts again usually been urine infection, but have noticed if she takes viral infection eg heavy cold- seems to start again. or too busy with whatever they r doing during the day and holding on until the last moment. hope u get it sorted out

Yes, as above, take him to the doctors just to be on the safe side.

You say that he has not had any changes but I can't help but think that this is happening at the start of a new school year. Coincidence?

What year is your son in? Year 2? This is often a year when the teaching moves 'up a gear' (ready for the dreaded SATS!). Could this be having an effect on him?

in this hot weather uti's are very common - people don't drink enough, and it doesn't always hurt at all.

You also can 'lose touch' with the need to go if you are dehydrated and don't go all day, and then it can be a terrible surprise.

I'd get him to drink a lot more, so that he 'remembers' to go more often - and get him checked out by the doctors.

All good advice, but generally this kind of thing is not so abnormal. You may never get to the bottom of it so don't try too hard to analyse it.

There might be a direct cause but unless he gets pain when peeing (sign of infection) I would tend to go with ensuring that he drinks enough and gets to understand himself a bit better in terms of in one end and out the other and doesnt get into the habit of holding on too long or drinking too much right before he is expected to sleep.

If he is generally his normal happy self then (and I am sure I don't have to say this) just make no big deal of it. Stuff happens, especially with some boys of this age I think.

It's almost certainly just a phase and a wetting may happen a few times in the next year or so, or you might just already have seen the last of it.

You should take him to the GP, it could be a uti, diabetes or another cause......but only your GP can rule out the first two.

my daughter went through a short phase around this age, the thing that infurated me was that she would either leave her stinky pants in her room or just ignore the fact that she had done it until i mentioned it to her:mad:
i took her to the dr assuming something was wrong, he tested but there was no infection so just put it down to a phase. He said they wouldn't do any further tests unless it was still going on regularly around the age of 11 - 12:eek:.

i just let her know that it wasn't acceptable (lol sound like super nannny!) made her rinse her pants through and put them in the basket it didn't last long.
