I haven't clicked on the link and really don't want to so can I just ask - is the article saying that these animals are treated so badly specifically for the purpose of making Ugg style boots or cheap imported products generally?

This article on the tree hugger site does not have any upsetting images so you can read here without seeing anything. :)

But basically yes the animals are just treated badly for use in fur items.

Yes. The headline was something like "dogs skinned alive for fake ugg boots".
The people doing this are worse than animals.
I don't think the poor things are even consumed or else they wouldn't be left to die for 3 hours afterwards, they would be bled instead.
Why couldn't they just lethally inject them if they don't want to stain the pelt? Why do they allow them to suffer for hours afterwards instead of ending it for them? Why are they using these poor animals if they are not using the meat?
I am boycotting all such products if I suspect cruelty from now on.

Surely this is illegal. Saying that, if it's China then I am not surprised as I watched an expose once of people being executed for imaginary crimes and there were doctors at hand to remove organs for selling to America.
Corruption everywhere. If people can be 'farmed' for profit without conscience then these poor animals don't have a voice.

Sorry to be blunt but I have woken up still upset and it was the first thing I thought of as I awoke. :(

jumblejack, I agree with you 100%. This gave me nightmares last night and I keep thinking about it, it's made me cry but I'm also filled with rage, that wickedness like this goes on. I came to the conclusion a while ago that human beings don't deserve this planet and all the beautiful animals in it. I hope the Daily Mail can get a petition going anything is worth a try. I was about to buy a kacket with faux fur trim from a catalogue company I will now be trying to find out where that garment was made and if the faux fur is just that. I've also just remembered I bought a cat toy a while ago, it was a fur mouse on a piece of cord purchased from Poundland and I questioned the fur on that no way was that fake fur. I won't be buying anything from China and I will check labels when out shopping.

So are real Ugg boots ok or are they also implicated in these cruel practices? They are sheepskin aren't they, not dog skin?

Thanks - I've signed the petition, so disgusted with this it's so sad and I just can't stop thinking about it. Will go over now and have a look at Claribels thread.

Are there any sites anywhere that have info on which products are affected? I know that there is the ethical traders initiative - would this be covered by that?
  • Thank you so much claribel. I have posted a link to the treehugger site on my facebook page, with a warning about the video link. I personally couldnt face watching it, the article is upsetting enough. I know that Martin is not an environmental commentator, but I wonder if he should mention this story in the newsletter. We all like a bargain, but not when it comes at such a cost.
