Why? Why do you think there are plans with 500Mb or 1GB or more monthly allowance if people don't use that sort of amount of data? If the price of using data abroad is about £1 per Mb then that usage will cost hundreds or thousands.

How much of the usage is really essential? After all many users are away on holiday, the business users will recoup the cost in the profit from the business transaction, why should there not be a premium?
The handset has to be allocated a temporary number or at least access to the hosting network, this has to be connected back to the home network for billing purposes, the infrastructure that enables this costs money to provide and maintain, the people that maintain it have to be paid , so you can quickly see that there are a lot of overheads already.
So if folk wanna update their FB status to say 'just on the beach ' or ' having an apres ski drink' etc or they wanna read that Louis Walsh should be sacked then they will have to pay. Tevez refusing to come off the subs bench will be news all over Europe.

:rotfl:Yeah that's really worth a 25000% markup. I can send texts for 11p, I can make calls for 75p plus my home rate. And that's on PAYG. Funny how Vodafone haven't gone bankrupt as they must be massively subsiding me if foreign usage really costs them hundreds or thousands.

Well I travel around Italy a lot and I use the Vodafone Data Traveller, pay £10 for a month and get 25mb a day to use which is 750mb per month. When back in The UK I just turn the £10 data traveller off. I personally think it is a good deal tbh.

I can send texts from my inclusive bundle, can't remember how much calls were but cheaper than the rate you quoted as the call bundle was not worth paying the £5 or £10 for, not sure where you get the headline mark up figure from though?, but as already mentioned the usage is not essential and perhaps they don't want people clogging up the networks.

you responded to my accusation that these high bills are fabricated stories, then you reply with someone you know...., yet you have not seen the bill, it seems you are the troll in this instance.

If the prices dropped 99% they'd still be too high. About time the EU came up with a sensible retail cap.

Data on holiday is very useful, for instance for booking hotels, looking up places to visit, checking the weather etc. It's not just saddos wanting to do their hourly facebook status update.

Luckily most hotels have wifi or internet connected PCs for a reasonable fee so usually no need to get ripped off by your mobile operator.

Be careful for what you wish for and what you want the EU to look into.

Yipppeeeee - It's now cheaper to send a text message from the EU than from the UK.

Do the same with Data and you know what will happen in the UK - You will pay higher rates in the UK to compensate for the 2 week holiday you had in the sun.

I'd rather have it cheaper in the UK and stuff the EU or anywhere else. Roaming is a luxury facility - If you can afford to use it fair play to you, go for it.

What we all need to remember is a mobile company is a business not a charity, for example we get free calls in the UK unlike the USA who have to pay. What i'm getting at is they have to make money some way or another and if they put more caps on roaming usage we will just pay for it back in the UK.

It seems due to all these caps and limitations that the cost for both PAYG and Contract out of bundle costs are just going as high as they were when mobiles started to become popular.

I remember when Vodafone PAYG used to cost 2p/Min in the Weekends - Gosh look at it now.
    David :)
£1 of debt is too much for me!

Sometimes there is no point writing sense to some of the cork sucker whingers, it wouldn't be so bad if they could levy a reasonable case as to why the charges should be any cheaper? Or even what they deem a reasonable £/mb rate. All I am seeing is headline mark ups and someone who knows some one stories.
