How about the energy bars you can get in health food shops? Small, light, dense nutrition, perfect for snacking. Avoid the choc ones because of melting.

Have you tried the food marketed towards campers/hikers/extreme survival madcappers? you know the dehydrated ready meals targeted at people who want to climb Everest/sail round the world single handed etc?

I think I know what I mean... They'll be really light for you to post, and for him to carry around, and by their nature, designed to hold nutrients in a dense space. you can also get energy bars and the like directed at the same market

also beef jerky sticks - I know Asda sell them and they are high protein, virtually last forever and are light! They look like dog chews! apparently they are popular with hikers in America.

What about pork rinds? High in protein, fat, lightweight and calories.

Protein shakes that can be mixed with water? Complan.

I'm taking it that your boyfriend is in the Forces. How can these lads be in a war zone without enough food to eat?
    Dreadful state of affairs.

I know my best friend used to send her husband muesli bars, nuts, dried fruit and beef jerky when he was in Afghanistan. He's a big chap and it was really alarming to see how much weight he lost too. They really ought to get fed more.

I think there's an armed forces board somewhere on MSE, so you could ask there as well. Good luck to you both.

It might be water loss as well due to working in the heat. My cousin found it really hard work because they were had to build a school, can't imagine doing such labour in scorching heat.

Dried fruits as well as nuts, they have got sugar in them for energy. High calorie drinks too. Pot noodles?
