Can anyone recommend a Sunggie as a good means of keeping warm during the impending cold months ahead?

    Thanks

I've seen some in Primark for around £7.99, they were at the foot of the escalator in our one :)

Disaster here - sunny dy so I decide to wash all my woollies and discover that BOTH my black cashmere (not posh TKMAXX bargains) are splattered with flippin; moth holes all down the front!!!!!!!!!! What on earth am I going to do as both are supposed to be my be smart but warm in my freezing classroom when I go back to work.
Needless to say the old work jersey (which are wool too) are as right as ninepence. Shal I darn them - can I darn after all these years? Shall I embroider interesting patterns on them or simply bin them?

Anyway, something came to me which may come in handy if you're trying to start off in the car when it's icey/snowy and it's sliding around all over the place.

I've shown people how to do it but am struggling a bit to put it into words so will keep it very basic, if it doesn't make sense, please say and I'll give it another bash:o (as it really does work):):

Start your car and do everything as normal except do not go anywhere near your accelerator - when you get to the bite in the cluth, release the handbrake/brake pedal, let out the clutch gently .... and the car will move:). Once moving and "stable", you can then move into the next gear/use your accelerator.

It's a very alien feeling and doesn't feel natural at all:o but the car moves just by releasing the clutch (and no acceleration) - it's great for trying to move off from a parking spot or if you're on an incline at a set of traffic lights etc.

I give myself a "crash test" in doing this every year as it's a long time since doing it the earlier year .... have a couple of practices just now while the weather's good (empty parking spaces in a supermarket car park etc).

    HTH:)

A sound idea and very sensible to practice, unless you have an auto gearbox (no clutch) in which case you don't need to do anything except put the car in gear, let handbrake off and it will roll slowly forward on its own! Also a strange feeling when you first drive one, took me a while to get used to keeping my foot on the brake so as not to bump the car in front at the lights etc. Now I wouldn't swap it for the world and often wonder why people bother with gears when life's made so much easier without. But that's another forum...;)

This is exactly how I learned to drive! I didn't realise at the time that most people don't know how to do that. It really does make a HUGE difference in snow and ice and I do it every winter.

:T Well done for posting - I reckon lots of people would benefit from learning how to pull away without the accelerator.

My driving instructor taught me this in the 70s and my now ex OH really had a go at me for doing it! When the clutch needed replacing he blamed me for it,he called it "Riding the clutch" I drive an automatic now!

Oh dear Tugrin I am sorry, that's horrible. I'm not a great stitcher, I'm sure someone will have a better idea but can you crewel a pattern in the same colour (black) which would look quite smart? Hope you manage to salvage them.

I would possibly embroider over the holes or buy something to iron on over them or just darn them and wear something over the top of them, sleeveless tops maybe?
    Shame to throw them out!

    Hi everyone.
I had a panic this morning!! We have the front bedroom and bathroom windows which need to be replaced (and will be as soon as we have the cash) and hubby says theyre now classed as single glazed because they have "blown" what can i use to give them extra layer so my heat doesnt escape? I have a blind and curtains in the bedroom and a blind in the bathroom but its not practical during the daytime to have them down to keep the heat in.
Then when i pulled the blind up in the 2nd bedroom this morning i thought that that window had blown too but in fact it was "just" condensation - why? ive never had condensation on that window before?
Ive sent an email to the school behind us to complain about their street lights (again) and an email to royal mail as my post keeps going walkies, ive gotten free cinema tickets and skittles and whisky today lol.
I got a bunch of "carboot" items from freecycle so we are going to do a carboot sunday.
Im in DESPERATE need of 1 or 2 bras to keep me going i have none and because of my size (sorry men) theyre minimum of £15 and i just dont have the money so ive requested on freecycle but am feeling doubtful - about to have another look on ebay.
I nearly gave myself food poisoning for uncooked chicken this lunchtime (arrgh been there not pleasant!)
my back door is still open but give it another week and i think i will have to keep it closed :( thats the only thing i dislike about winter.
feets are really feeling the cold now, have to start wearing socks now.
The colder weather is definitely starting to set in and reminding me how little i managed to get done!
BUT with all we have been through im just going to keep trying to do a little bit each month and keep taking your tips on board.

Maybe i will find a few more bits and pieces at the last carboot of the year!
Everything is always better after a cup of tea
