Rising where did you get that deal on the dog food please?

It's so hot here that I can't take the dogs out! When it's this hot in the summer (you know, that one day each year!) we don't trolley off to the park until about 9pm, but it will be dark by then tonight. I can't quite get my head round it. I have curtains and cushion covers in the washing machine. And my wellies have arrived and I am officially in love! However I am willing to wait a while before trying them out ...... seems strange to think that in three or four weeks' time we might have snow !

I got some last year and they are fine. I fill them when I get up in the morning and stick it on the dashboard of the car. Then when I'm ready to go, usually some of the thick ice that has developed inside the car overnight has melted. It's not nice scraping it off as you usually end up covered in it.

And if you put HW bottles on the outside of your windscreen at the bottom over the blades the wipers will be melted by the time you come out - saves you running the engine for the warm air. most of the ice will have softened enough to be scraped away very easily.
    Peace will be mine

The magic machine (aka a Bionaire dehumidifier) travelled back from Cambridge in the blazing heat today only to find itself extracting 2 pints of water from my bedroom - on a day like today - I ask you is that a fairly damp room or what????
surely after the few days of extreme heat we have had that is a bit unusual isnt it?

Could this be the cause of my constantly feeling 'hay-fever-ey' when Im upstairs I wonder.

Im thrilled with my bargain and the results so far and plan to run it in each room for a few hours to really dry out before the sun turns to snow in 3 days time.

Incredible isn't it - I have always been surprised by the amount of water that collects.

Its good for watering houseplants btw ;)

tugrin - I'm in your county and I wouldn't worry about your room being damp. The weather has been/is v hot but also humid, hence all the sweating (in dry climates sweat vapourises instead of feeling clammy). We've had thick autumn mist each morning this week inland and I imagine the sea mists are about nearer the coast. I know this is the winter prep thread but I'm wondering how to get a decent kip tonight in this clammy heat - will probably be downstairs where it's cooler.

I thought I was an organised sort of person, got all the essentials, cupboards and freezer full of food, candles galore, hot water bottle, flask, a camping cooker, extra gas canisters..

Guess who forgot the matches/lighter? :doh:It's so long since I gave up smoking it never occurred to me I'd need something to light things with! Hope this jogs someone's memory if they've forgotten the simplest but most obvious thing :)

sparrer - thought about this the other day when I realised that whilst I had onions, tomatoes, stock, spices, etc, etc, I didn't have a stock of tomato puree which I use loads of
