sometimes and when I give them a shove to open they sometimes open too far and I can't reach the handle to shut them :rotfl:

i use the handle of my cane to close mine when they open too far (the wind catches them) i picked mine up for about £4 from lidl but you sometimes find them in bargain stores and half price website had some folding ones for £3 once

i use my cane for loads of things including hooking it around things at the back of tall cupboards to pull them forward enough for me to grab, and when things are really stiff in my knees i use it to drag things toward me that may have fallen off my desk or under it, off the sofa etc

loads of uses for a cane even if you don't need one ;)

Actually, now you mention it, my dd's window sticks, so I might try it on there too.

This might lead to a job of cleaning around the inside of the window rims, the bits where all the mechanisms are...

Don't know if it will work on House windows but worth a go, you can rub car windows with a candle to make it glide easier. Can't really see why it wouldn't work on a sticky house window.

I have UPVC windows and the rubber seals around the opening windows regularly stick to the frame/window (one on the edge of the window that opens, and another on the inside of the frame) and makes that peeling parcel tape sound when I open them and causes them to stick. I too will need to clean all the frames before greasing them :o

Having said that I've used vaseline along the edge of doors that stick to stop them sticking in the past lol ;):rotfl:

    Hello all

I dont know whether this is winter prep or not, but they are classed as winter prep here. I a tin of Lion ointment and a tin of wintergreen from poundland today!

I have posted on poundland grabbit board but thought being OS more people here might know what they are for.

Apparently Lion ointment is good for drawing out splinters and boils etc and the wintergreen is good for aching joints and muscles (ideal in winter).

Just thought I would share as I thought they were a bargain!

  • Weather has been warm, dry and sunny last few days, so I have done piles of washing. All throws, curtains, fleeces, scarves, jumpers, gloves etc. The really good thing is, apart from the curtains, nothing else needs ironing!!!:j

I have been working my way through my store cupboard, and making a list to stock up on. And will also make list of medication. Apart from that not much else to do, since I was really well prepared last year, so not much else to buy.

Hopefully it will be another mildish winter, but i rather be ready for whatever comes.

ps does anyone know whether you can get a wind up kindle charger?

Not heard of one but my kindle and blackberry both take the same usb fittings so I just charge both up via same usb cable. So any phone charger for blackberry I would presume would fit - not tried, I don't have a wind up on just an in car charger, will take kindle out to car and try it and let you know.

i know many of you are familiar to Freegle recycle network, I have just learned of another called 'Craft store' now there isn't one near me , but there is a few, so maybe you will be lucky.
They hold lot of crafty stuff saved for recycling and donated by local businesses, like an Aladin's cave. Some only allow children, others allow anyone. prices vary, but one place i saw charges £2 for a full basket of stuff and £10 annual membership, so that should give you an idea. Have a look at the web site and maybe you will have one near you that you can get some little bits and pieces to make or up cycle stuff to see you through the winter xx
