OH and I have split up, he's moving out and has been at a friend's since Saturday night. Oh god :faint:
Sending you lots and lots of cyber hugs, just keep telling yourself how much money you can save on your own, and for something to snuggle and keep you warm treat yourself to a hot water bottle and a furry bear cover, cheaper, doesn't answer back or spend money.:ANeed to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

I do have an electric fire that looks like a wood burning stove - even has false logs inside that look as if they are burning and I bought a plastic pipe to go on top of it, sits in hall, never put actual heat on just the pretend flames, but am amazed at how many people think its real lol
SNAP :rotfl:To everything above LOL but mine sits in the fireplace recess because I did get rid of the nasty gas fire and had the gas capped off below the floorboards. Horrid shoddily built mantel and deep surround removed and opening made flush with top of chimney breast. The old burnt bricks were revealed inside the recess and the slate hearth was in 3 bits, 2 of which fitted exactly inside the recess so the "woodburner" stands on it. :rotfl: I've made no attempt to pretend it's real but I have to say it does look good."Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
Coopers just contacted me to say they are repaying the £49.99 they charged me for the 4 in 1 charger, so will see how long they take to refund. Anyway not to bad as found this one in Argos
http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=1500002901&langId=-1&productId=1501022619
and even better as not only could plug a couple of lights in via 12v socket but it has a AC point for normal plugs - ok could only plug something in that doesn't need to much power or gobbles it up, but still very handy in a power cut and only £25 dearer so not so bad - we did have one of them but it packed in oh years ago and I did look for another but never noticed this in Argos hence me going for the one in CoopersNeed to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

Sorry everyone. Don't mean to rub people's noses in it. I really don't mean to sound like I'm gloating. If I could invite u round for a warm up I would! And anyway, I was jubilant at Woman Doing Man's Job, because man was still out.
Our last house was COLD. We couldn't afford to heat it much. The open fire was nice but didn't do much. Getting a wood burner was a Must Have for the move. But the one bought with the house was a horrible, potentially fatal, broken dreams nightmare. So we've saved and borrowed from family, and with the free wood from OH job, I am now warm. U wouldn't begrudge me that, would you?
Prep - i'll cross my fingers a winning lottery ticket blows with the leaves down the street and u find it.
Izzy - a friend has one of those and it's really nice, your set up sound really homely and a great use of the house's features.
Abwsco - congrats. We're only on our first week too.Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Frugal Living Challenger. No buying cleaning products. I used MSE advice to reduce my car insurance from 550 to 325!! & paid it off in full!!!0 -

Downside, you have to go out the back in the freezing cold everyday and fill the coal scuttle and log basket up. Then in the morning (or when I get in from work) I clean out the ash, which can be a faff. That also seems to generate extra dust on surfaces. I also have my chimney swept out every year as well. I have also sat that close to it I have nearly taken the first layer of skin off my face and legs I blame it entirely for the premature aging of my skin :rotfl:
Upside, they are lovely to look at, generate amazing heat and are blissful on cold, snowy evenings and are great for using to heat up the milk pan on for your bedtime drinky. Would we have one in the next house - yes, but I want to make sure we get an Aga in the kitchen to match!!Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

Don't take it to heart, we're all pleased for you as well as a bit jealousWe're quite light-hearted on here - it's an antidote to RL (Real Life) sometimes. And well done on the lighting thing - what did the Man have to say about it?

It's been very good so far and my garage chap says it's a good little car, only done about 22000 miles so far! It doesn't go very far, usually just shopping. Must admit the small boot drives me mad!:D
I have a red Kia Picanto, i have had it 18 months, i bought it from new and i am so glad i did.
I got a good deal on my little corsa that i had for many years but she was getting old and needed lots doing on it so it was time to replace her!

I'm really pleased prepareathome you had such a good outcome from Coopers, I'll be watching them as a Hermes courier in case they ever blame me, I have a customer who's waiting for an overdue order from them, it hasn't been sent or at least not been on my HHT for delivery so not missing.
I'll advice her to contact them if it's really overdue and she hasn't had any delay email(luckily she knows it's not me)been delivering to her for years.prepareathome wrote
Well I think my problems with not getting goods from Coopers of Stortford might be more to do with Hermes than them. I emailed as mentioned Hermes and today a part delivery. Driver one I see a lot, delivering for many companies - he was at mine yesterday. He told me this morning he had just collected things from depot when he got a call to come back and pick up another parcel, mine. He was told they just had a call to find my parcels and get them delivered, they only found one then, but driver now will be asking where others are. The 4 in 1 car starter still not arrived - and that was the first thing Coopers emailed me to say had gone out on 19th Oct.
It's doubtful any courier working for Hermes would get a call to go back to the depot and definitely wouldn't be told to get them delivered, I know what my answer would be. Your couriers story doesn't add up.
Just want to say again to anyone experiencing problems with their deliveries you would be wasting your time and be on hold if you contact Hermes, they will not deal with your problem, contact the company you ordered from they have to chase the order with Hermes.
You didn't say if Hermes responded to your email prepareathome but if they did I'd be surprised.
I'm going to keep an eye on Coopers and will post if they try to blame me for my customers delayed item.0 -
Haven't been on this thread for a while, but I hope somebody can help me.
I'm looking for some gloves that are waterproof and warm and the most important thing, not bulky.
I was in Countrywide a few weeks ago and thought I'd found the perfect pair until I saw the price. Nearly 50 quid!
They were equestrian gloves and I've searched and found some from around £12 upwards. So, I'd appreciate some recommendations.0 -
