Thanks Frugal - that makes perfect sense:).
There's a railway line behind the street on the other side of the road - for the 1st few weeks I moved in I was woken up at 3:10am every morning . Turns out there's a really heavy good train goes by at that time every night. After the first month or so, it stopped waking me up .... I tend to have a bit of a "relapse" when I first get the window open again in spring but it only takes a couple of days for me to sleep through again:D
I also have an air con unit in the summer (bedroom gets up to 34 deg:eek: which is awful) but that takes much more getting used to:) and I usually end up being awake until it switches off:(.
It shouldn't be on when I go to bed so I should be OK getting to sleep so will go & set the temp a bit higher and see what happens:) - prob good to do it now while I'm off work and it doesn't matter if I've got bags under my eyes for the next few days;)Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
2016 Sell: £125/£250
£1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000

:rotfl:LavenderBees, please keep on mentioning kitten!
We got a little furry girl recently and as she lives with OH I only see her at weekends, means I spend the week missing them both and your little tales about hot water bottle stoppers etc make me chuckle.Reminded me of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYlD0KXujAk Simon's Cat video :rotfl:
Now don't encourage Kitten (he's taking a bow and acknowledging his audience), he's head strong enough as is
Oh, bless, you must see a HUGE difference in your furry girl if you only see her week to week. Kitten has trebled in size in 7 weeks....perhaps he isn't the common moggy I think he is
I loved the link to Simon's Cat - have spent a good half hour watching various ones. Class! Bringing this hastily back on topic, the one of the cat prancing around in the snow is a classic. :rotfl: Both Kitten and Old-Boy-Cat were investigating my laptop to see where the new cat was. Then Old-Boy-Cat stalked off in a huff, probably thinks there's yet another new cat in the house. Kitten is enough, methinks!
Kitten's sabotage of my winter prep continues unabated. I had a large bowl of compost and newly shooting winter lettuce leaves on my kitchen windowsill. Not any more though...but sure, anyone can make the mistake of thinking that's just another type of litter tray. Sure we've all done it, haven't we? :rotfl:

Good thing you noticed

Fantastic!
Well, feeling a bit warmer now so may have to head off to bed before I get cold again - not looking forward to taking pooch out for a last wee - it was cold enough the last time I was out which was about 7:30 (with fleece, hat, scarf and gloves on:eek: - and that was only a 2 min trip into the back garden).
Have changed the temp on the heating controller thing so will see how it goes tonight.
Lavvy mine love newly dug anything! I had to put bird netting over the peas & beans this year - and the poor birds had nothing to do with it!
Now, please don't all laugh at me:o but I got a huge cardboard box (delivery) today and was thinking I'd try a foil thing behind the radiator in my room but I've now decided against it ... as I never have the radiator on above frost protection in there (kicks in at 5 deg!).
Not sure what I thought it was going to achieve:rotfl:Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

If you have no other plans for the box why not do it anyway, just in case there is a time when you do put it up.
All my radiators stay on frost protection, except one in hall which has no thermostat but I have still put the foil behind them in case - as only heating the living room one will turn up a bit as it gets colder but others unlikely as hall one keeps upstairs warm. Just the towel rail in the bathroom is kept on full as that is one cold room, so when main thermostat comes on so does the towel rail - no radiator in there.
Actually gone a bit milder here so didn't need to put thermostat up to heat up bathroom, and frost has melted.
Can anyone come up with a OS way to heat my downstairs toilet - no radiator in there, no room, just room for toilet and corner sink. It is what was the outside toilet although now there is a door between it and outside world and old coal cupboard that was at other side has been knocked through and now part of kitchen. There is the old back door between kitchen and downstairs toilet and so it gets really, really cold even though window is DG as is back door. I did think of removing inner ( back) door but last winter we left it open to see if heat from the hall went there ( no radiators or heating in the kitchen) but it didn't help radiator in hall to far away. Anyone think of anything????
ThanksNeed to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

It's been the coldest day so far here, this morning it was 15 degrees and the roofs were frosted over, so I am saying winter is just around the corner!
Also the shops are getting pretty busy! I think everyone has the same idea, to stock up now! We're all at it lol.
*I've had to put my fire on as well as the radiators, but as soon as dd has gone to bed off it goes!
These dark evenings are making me feel alot more tired and not wanting to get up on a morning.
Hope evryones keeping well, havnt caught up!1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31

Our front door is ancient and we're not going to replace it - but at the bottom of the door there's a big draft. I'd like a draft excluder (relatively pretty) but it's such a big "step" that I can't buy a draft excluder to fit it.
If anyone has any recommendations on where I can get one ordered to suit, or if anyone has any ability at making one I'd be happy to pay. Does anyone have any advice on what I should ask for when getting it made? I imagine it would need to be a fairly hardy material, and filled with something more than cotton fluff?
We're doing a big push to get the house completed for Christmas, and I'm an absolute novice at sewing (ie, I can't even sew a button on) and now's not the time for me to start learning and make one myself
Feel free to send me a PM with any details0 -

That reminds me Lidls is getting weat filled slippers in that you pop in the microwave1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31

you can use sand or rice for filling. I would just make one, look through the charity shps for a cheap curtain so its nice strong material? You only need to do simple tacking stitching really, you dont need to be good at sweing to keep it together.1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31
