Good afternoon thrifty winter preppers, a little off topic, however I'm sure someone will have some advice,
A couple of weeks ago I purchased some of the Yankie tarts that are supposed to be delish.... anyhoo, this afternoon I decided I would give one a try, I opened the wrapper and there is no wick........ is this supposed to be this way or have I got a duff one, if anyone has any experience with what to do with it can you please let me know, am thinking it is supposed to go in my pot pourri burner, but just want to double check as don't want to waste such a delish scent... Happy Prepping..... it's a bit Brrrrrrr today here in Cornwall, however no frost yet.

as far as i know tarts are meant to be melted in a tart burner something akin to one of those essential oil burners, you put a tea light underneath and the heat rises to the shallow bowl above and melts the tarts giving off the scent, least i think this is how it works i've not bought any. i'm sure someone here will correct me if i'm wrong :p
  • Well I've just been trying to create some storage space and have sorted out all the stashes of curtains & materials which were all mixed up and crammed in all over the place.

Storage is a major issue in my house (no cupboards) and most rooms are tiny so hard to fit anything in. In both bathrooms I've small laundry hampers (unused) so dogs spare duvet covers now in one and all my bits of material in the other.

All curtains now in a big I*kea bag which I've just managed to squeeze under the bed beside my spare duvets (summer & winter ones not on the bed) - you would not believe how many curtains I've actually got (people keep offering me them & I just can't say no!). I've found another 2 door curtains (already have one up) so hoping I'll be able to make a bean bag or similar from one of them.

And .... best of all, I've managed to empty the large laundry hamper (also only used for storage) in the spare room which can now be used to store pet food in. Feeling exhaused but pleased I've found places for everything and have a bit of space left over (2 small drawers - sure I'll fill them soon!)

Thriftkitten - Confuzzled is correct. The tarts are supposed to be melted in this sort of thing. They don`t burn like candles.

I do not think that daylight has broken at all today - dark, miserable, damp and drizzly :(

Same here. It is so depressing.

Yup horrible and damp here too:(

I even had to open my Sainsbob's basics hot chocolate to try at lunchtime (quite nice too!) - I usually only drink HC at bedtime in the depths of winter:eek:

Will have to go and do some more sorting out - it's too cold to sit .... brrrrrr

Just come back from a very grey and dreich walk with the dogs. Winter wheat in the field next to me has shot up to 4 inches since Saturday so it shows how mild it is.
Confuzzled I must tell you about the first time I heard the word dreich - I was teaching music in primaries in Edinburgh and we had a training day after the Xmas hols. The course leader met me in the car park and said 'Its a dreich day today ....' I actually thought it might be a Scots musical instrument that I hadnt heard of and was in a terrible panic for about 15 minutes until the course outline for the day had been gone through!!!!
Its sooooo dark and dreary - I know what you mean about the lights on a 1pm - Ive had my small kitchen lamp on all day, but the house isnt cold so I guess Norfolk is lucky today.

absolutely horrible dark day today but I`ve got a nice chicken/barley, all in one pot, meal in the remoska. Drowned in the leftover wine and thickened with chicken gravy, full of olives, shallots and garlic. A real winter warmer and dh came back with bought cakes. Haven`t had bought cakes for yonks but they`ll be very welcome today

Dh didn`t like the white light from the biobulb in the dining area, doh, so I have compromised and used a 2700k (wide spectrum) bulb that is like a globe The new shade was too `cold` looking for him, double doh, so we swapped shades with another room. I`ll have my way yet but I`ll bide my time. The biobulb in the snug is just fine and I am loving the daylight effect, which will also make me sleep better. He`ll just have to get used to it
