Phone Accident

Probably wrong forum but can anyone help, I left my nokia 6280 in my trousers and they went through the washing machine. The phone doesn't work, I'm not insured, and my son tells me the sim will only work in other three phones as it is 3G. Phoned Three to ask about cancellation and the costs were more than continuing the contract with no phone. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to overcome my problem?

Buy a cheap PAYG '3' phone and use that for the remainder of your contract. My son broke his 3 phone a year or two back and I picked up some cheap 3 PYG phone from Superdrug for about £30 and he used that instead.
One thing to watch for though, I was warned at the time that some 3 PAYG phones have the sims sort of 'wired' in so they can't be used with a different sim. I didn't have that problem and I've no idea whether the warning was true, but no doubt someone on here will know.
Incidentally, we did try asking 3 to sell us a cheap phone, but they wanted about £80 for one, hence going to superdrug.
