Hi
my sister has given my dd an old desktop pc to use for doing home work and to use for facebook, the desktop has no wifi so i bought a edimax ew-7811un adapter, the desktop was taken back with the restore disc, have also installed the edimax cd driver and updated them using a memory stick. the edimax cant detect any available network. it also says the edimax is disconnected. anyone got any ideas what im doing wrong.

Depending on the age of the PC it may only have USB 1.1 ports and most dongles need USB 2.0 because 1.1 isn't fast enough.
  • As Hammy says but of course which version of Windows has it got, and has it got an ethernet port? Also an idea of the make model may help too

Does this PC have a brand name? Has it been updated to XP SP3? Is it showing as installed within the Device Manager? Have you tried using the XP Wireless Zero Configuration?
