What's it like living in a flat???
That question is as bizarre to me as the woman who was shocked when I said I'd never had an aga and then asked how I managed.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -

I live in Victorian terraced house, but also have a flat in a south coast town.
The flat is much nicer than the house.
It's described as a garden flat, Phil.
Usually that means its a dark basement, but as my flat is part of building on a hill, you down steps to its own front door(so don't have to share front door or hall with other flats).
Small entrance lobby then big living room (flat has high ceilings).
The building was a rather grand house and my flat is what used to be the kitchens (when refurbishing I found the 'dumb waiter' hatch and the board that used to have the bells to summon the servants!)
Through the living room door into the hall - you then turn right to the kitchen, toilet and bathroom or left down the hall where the door to the bedroom is on your left and the door to the garden is ahead of you.
The bedroom is 16 feet x 20 feet very light and sunny with big bay window.
So - in answer to original post - it's not like living in a hall of residence - unless you have what is described as a 'studio flat' - which can be quite small.
In the kind of building I described, the walls are thick and there is not much noise from neighbours either side, but there could be noise from people above.
However, my terraced house is very cramped. The rooms are small. As this is a university town, I have student neighbours on one side - and I'm afraid they are quite noisy at 3am!
If you are thinking of buying a flat - be careful about the lease! I have run into big problems with mine.
If you are thinking of renting a flat - you may have to think about furniture as many people are letting unfurnished these days (this is what I've done with mine) because of fire regs and furnishings.
A flat could easily be as spacious - or more spacious than a house - if that answers anything - sorry I'm so long winded!0 -

It is not really alike at all as I am not saying you should ever have lived in flat like she was saying you should have an aga.
I am onlt talking in very general terms like do you miss having a garden, does it feel cramped?:beer:0 -
