  • Can't see this anywhere so hopefully is a new post...

In my hunt for free entertainment due to current job hunting (redundancy is fun!) I came across the following:

Dirty Dancing on the big screen for free!

Imagine a balmy summer’s evening, you and your friends in the open air
enjoying a Shloer cocktail, and Dirty Dancing on the big screen!
If this sounds like fun to you, click on one of the venues to find out more, get the date into your diary and organise a girl’s night to remember. Get dressed up, come along (just turn up, you don't need a ticket) and enjoy the free non-alcoholic Shloer cocktails and popcorn on offer.
You’ll have the time of your life!

Screenings are in London, Cardiff, Bristol and Leeds. Sadly I won't be able to make this one but sounds like fun! :j

Apologies if i'm posting in the wrong place - can't figure out the threads yet!!

Time Out have a lovefilm deal at the mo where you get 2 free cinema tickets if you sign up for a months free trial which you can click for 1-3 DVD's.

You have to enter payment details but if you return all dvds and cancel your subscription before the end of the trial you dont pay a penny - cool huh!

you may even me able to use martin's tart alert as a reminder to cancel...:money:

I think there have always been fewer screenings in the summer. Maybe they are just expecting more people to go to regular screenings as the weather is 'better'.

it's just the fact that most of the films coming out are sequels, Shrek 3, Die Hard 4 etc. You know what they are about.

The word preview is just a posh name for what we call in the industry a 'talker', which as the name emplies is for customer to talk about the film, to their family and freinds to go and see the movie.

On the point about problems with films, are some of these previews initial rush copies. I remember watching Hollywoodland and remember that throughout the film the sound boom kept dropping into shot and things like that. Couldnt decide if pre edit verison or just crap!

At nearly £1,500 + a print, these are not rush prints! You can have problems with the old reel sometimes, but these are usally replaced quite quickly with a telephone call to the distributor.

All films you usaully see in the uk are already edited before printing onto film. The only edits you might get in a film past this stage, is a BBFC cut to the film. This is when the film company wants to get a certain cert like 12 instead of a 15.

As for the sound boom dropping into shot during Hollywoodland it could be 2 possible things.

    1. A bad boom mike person who should know how to do their job better.

    2. Possibility that the lens/masking ratio is set up incorrectly in the screen you saw it in. In other words they could be showing the total picture instead of what we call in the bussiness, the masked piture area, ( usally in this instance the horizontal plane - top and bottom of screen)

And yes, I showed it. IT WAS crap!

This is something I have just posted on the free ticket page.

Nor are most of the posts as you need to eg Buy the sunday Times, call an 0901 number, etc etc. Theses are at least free in that you don't have to buy them, yes there is no guarantee you will "win" them but there is no guarantee of getting say a Seefilmfirst ticket anyway. We had agreed that comp ones could go in as they are giving away free cinema tickets.

My 1st post today does say that given the lack of screenings I was posting these.

Sorry that I seem to have offended you so much that you require to shout at me in red letters.

If you are not interested then I presume you can ignore the posts? Sometimes if you can't say anything nice, you should consider not saying anything at all?

    I will delete this later.

Sorry about the ads Quoia, I couldn't delete them when I posted and then work got busy! I've fixed them now!

To the people going to the Evan Almighty screening in Greenwich on Sunday, does anyone know exactly where the cinema is? At first I thought it was the one by McDs and Nando's, but then I read the thing about there being 700 tickets and animals so it can't be! Is it at the Dome?

Hiya, that's the way that I read it. Have to admit, I'm not overly familiar with the area yet though... :o

    Hi people

The cinema is indeed inside the Dome. I went there on Sunday and the cinema screens are massive. There's also alot of places to eat inside the dome & also a pub if you want a drink after the cinema. Alot of the restaurants are not opening until late July/August time as its still all new, but there is enough there if you did want to eat.

Also PLEASE NOTE that to park at the Dome is £5 in the main Dome car park. I think the nearby station car park is the same amount. So bear this in mind!!! I personally think it is a rip-off that they can charge you £5 to park your car when you are obviously going in the Dome and will be spending money. But hey.

    Enjoy :)
