Have just been to see "magicians" at the panton st odeon, London and I have to admit it was alright. Few obvious jokes and some laugh out loud moments but overall very good.

And the two stars, David Mitchell and Robert Webb, were there to introduce the film! Never been to a free screening where the actors have done that!

I'm glad another MSEr was there! It was quite cool the way you could almost hear the way jaws were dropping as they introduced it... mine included! :T

I did see Robert Webb outside the cinema so had a sneaking suspicion they would come in. Either that or he was hanging around to see how many people turned up to see his film!

I think it's brill when the stars make the effort to 'give something back' to their fans - after all, it's a + for their image and if they get to see what kind of people like their stuff/how popular they are then that's a bonus! The whole PR'ing must be a pain in the backside so it's good when they show their fans some appreciation too. :T

Unfort Gabriel Byrne & co didn't appear at the Jindabyne screening this eve (unless they were disguised as members of the audience ;) ) but it was a good film - some touching not to mention educational moments and fantastic performances by the 2 leads - GB and Laura Linney. Unfort, it's really put me off living in the outback (not that I'd ever considered it and I'm sure some people would say the opposite since the landscape is depicted so beautifully).

I hope lots of people go and see this as the setting is breathtaking and it shows other sides of Australia to the more familiar Neighbours/Home and Away/Bondai beach images. I wasn't even annoyed at the strange mish-mash of accents!
    I hope I didn't brain my damage...

Forgot to say that it was totally full by 6.30pm! Which could indicate that people are more interested in this fictional Antipodeon story than the hard-hitting facts of Fast Food Nation! And understandably so! (see Fast Food Nation reviews)

I saw this film last year at the Edinburgh Film Festival. At that time it had no distributor so I'm really pleased you all got to see it too.

Gabriel Byrne was at the screening we were at and he introduced it and talked about the making of the film and also about wah Wah which he'd made the previous year - really cool to see and hear him.

If you enjoyed the Outback look out for the Aboriginal Film 10 Canoes which had a release date here at the start of June. I saw this is Australia last year - fantastic film.

I went to see Jindabyne & thought it was really boring! If this is the kind of movie that Time Out will be showing every week then I don't think I will bother.

Depends what you're into - like, I don't mind the odd multimillion Hollywood blockbuster but there are so many other films that don't get the exposure they deserve. These sorts of screenings esp give smaller independent distributors some much-needed publicity as well as allowing people to see their work and spread the word (incl no doubt a few 'mainstream' viewers who wouldn't have ever considered seeing this sort of film previously).

Just because a film doesn't have back-to-back action scenes, gratuitous sex/swearing/violence, oodles of Hollywood megastars and isn't produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, doesn't make it a bad film. ;) Of course, having said that, if you're referring to the last Timeout screening (Fast Food Nation), that was undeniably dull (should've been a 45 min documentary, not a 2hr long lecture posing as a film ) but I thought they made up for it with Jindabyne which tackled big as well as sensitive issues like death, love, family relationships, bereavement, spirituality in an elegant, understated way.

Thanks jillsa, I haven't seen Wahwah yet but heard lots of good things about it. GB is solid in everything he's in and with that strong cast it can't be bad! Will look out for 10 Canoes, I'm lucky cos I have a cinema near me that shows the more 'arthouse' films but a lot of people only have the local mutliplex with all the usual Hollywood tack.

Yes, Edinburgh is great for cinema choice with many of the big ones that show the usual blockbusters but we also have the Cameo and the Filmhouse for the independents. I must too stick up for Cineworld as it does get a good mix of arty and blockbuster filem. we also have the Film Festival in August well worth a weekend up here for that if you are a film fan. Watch out for the Flying Scotsman about ths cyclist Graeme Obre which has just been released in the USA and is doing well. It should be distributed in the summer here this year. Fantastic film if you like drama not for you if you only like Blockbuster stylee films like our friend above who found Jindabyne boring. Still wouldn't do if we all liked the same thing!!!

Wish we got Time Out Screenings up here though!!!
