yeh, all electric hobs need a fused socket. Guessing your oven is a double oven or border line, but yeh definately dont install a plug unless it says you can!!

most new ovens can be wired into a 13 amp socket

each ring can use 2kw of power.

WILL IT BE EASY TO INSTALL ?!
No, it won't. The kitchen probably has only ever been fitted with a gas oven. As you were clearly missold the cooker, take it back and demand a gas oven as replacement and they should be able to fit that.

But check that the kitchen has a gas connection first......

Apparently for 30 quid Currys can fit it anyway.........
  • I bet the currys man didn't tell you that when your changing your small room into another kitchen you would need to contact building control, kitchens need proper water supplies and ventilation and the existing electrical set up would need to be appropriate.

I wonder if all that is included in the £30 install - if it is sign me up for one :-)

Shops like Currys and Dixons etc employ staff who do not know much, and they probably get low pay. And yet they no doubt buy the goods cheap due to bulk discounts, and sell them at high prices. That said I was recently at a specialist fireplace shop, and two assistants were not aware that a composite fireplace could not be used with solid fuel, and that granite would need to be slabbed for use with solid fuel. Is it any wonder many of us buy on ebay, and other online shops? Ironically those sellers often know more about their goods.

  • We decided to opt for an electric cooker for a second small kitchen.

So did you tell them it was a second kitchen? & did you tell them what was coming out (if there was anything in there in the first place)?

OP, you need one of these, or something similar to it, with the CORRECT cabling connected to it, back to your fusebox or consumer unit

The following is the WRONG way to connect a cooker - unless the cooker is designed to be connected this way, which yours apparently wasn't

If it was designed to be installed this way, it would come with a moulded plug on the cable, I believe. AIUI, moulded plugs are now a requirement.
