I have just had all sorts of probs trying to re-connect to i/net.
It's taken over 40 mins, but will start again, for the umpteenth time.
I get to Step 4. - download avast6 FREE - but it doesn't like me doing this and shuts of my bb and I have to use every lateral way i can invent to get back here - all my connections/ikons and old systems are dead.

santer - you are amazing, to still be up and kindly replying...everything just shut down again, but back I have come{I'm just grimly determined to sort this now]

Think I'd best put kettle on for you...

    Right, avast6 is a no-go, so I won't try that again.

I've just complied with step 5 - uninstalled all the security software that applied to me i.e. rapport, avg, mcafee. At this point, e/th shut down again, so I intend resuming at step 6.
Oh, I see that is Install avast6free - but I can't see that this will work as I'm unable - so far - to download it at all [ and it is tiresome to have to keep starting e/th over and over and over again.]...
-if you are still up, what do you suggest?

There are a number of these, they scan the system before Windows loads

    http://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/rescuedisk

Have posted this one as it has the instructions

Click the top one ( ID 4162) then click the link to download

Am going on the malware removal route because a classic sign of infection is when all anti virus type programmes are switched off, so using a rescue disc will work before whatever is turning them off gets a chance to load

You can use ImgBurn to make the CDR with the ISO Image file if you do not already have a programme for those

Sorry santer - you've replied while housecall did its stuff - ran 8mins 06secs and No Threats.

I've re-read your post 25, but saw kaspersky as one of those 'closed' says to remove. It's not one I had, or have - in fact, have never heard of it till starting this thread.

With regard to your post 25, am I now to combine the Sticky for slow computer procedure with yours? I ask because it slightly worries me - crude parallel being to mix imperial and metric measurements in a recipe.

If you can run through the sticky, do that before the bit in post 25, it is just where you said anti virus programmes were being switched off, or that you could not install avast that made me look at a rescue CD

In fact, I continue to come unstuck attempting to download avast6 free. Either the full download screen greys out, with a[dollars] paying upgrade option for 1 or 2 years to be ticked[the 'No thanks, I want the Free version' does not work], OR - when i tried it as a Yahoo search, only a £ paying option presents itself, despite it coming up as labelled FREE.
It actually requires a name/em addy[to which it says access directions will be given for download], then goes to Payment Method page....no thankyou.
Can you see any way through this one?

So with progress halted on the sticky, if it were me, I would get the rescue CD file, make the CD, load it and go for a snooze, or you can wait to see if closed has come across it before

Google returns these for anti virus scanner keeps getting turned off

With this for unable to download anti virus software

santer - you have been an absolute stalwart, but I know I am blundering about in a language for which I have no training[I'm bi-lingual, but my beloved French is no use here :-) ].
I will have job enough trying to get my putah back to some recognisable functioning state as it is, without having to restart e'th constantly and having it - and broadband - shut down on me all the time....soooooo, it is prob. time for me to stop, esp. as closed lays great store by:
Follow these 12 steps carefully, completely, and in the order suggested
    ....
I am unable to do this and don't know how to make a CD....

    I'm stopping therefore.

My slender means[pension only] don't allow for financial faffing, however 'just a few £pounds' it may seem to others.

I really thank you for all your input and just hope I can somehow get my putah back to sth which works before too long. Although I've removed the Opera thing, its ikon continues to sit on many of my desktop ikons[none of which function any more]and i can open nothing at all, save nothing at all. It's this - at least - that I'd like to put right.

Rather than the kettle I offered to put on before, I do have a v. decent wine cellar, so had best open sth from there for you....merci millefois.

This should help with the desktop icons and other things

    http://www.tangosoft.co.uk/re-enablev2.html

Download and run it, you can click to watch the video first if the PC will run it

Nothing wrong that you will need to spend any money on so far
