Bbc i-player problems

Options
I am having trouble with BBC i-player.

The Great British Bake-off series will not play, although it shows as 'Done',

I have an empty black rectangle, where the screen and Play symbol usually show. The title and info. show as normal captions below this, but there is nothing else for me to click - any ideas please?

Thankyou for any help.

icon1.gifAdobe Flash Player update won't work
    Hi!

I was on the BBC website last night and wanted to watch some of the interviews from y'day's footy matches - but I was told I needed an updated version of Flash Player. I then went on to Youtube and got the same there.

I clicked on the link provided and updated successfully, rebooted, and tried both sites again. No joy. I've searched various internet forums for a solution but everything I've tried has failed. This ranges from doing a complete uninstall and reinstall to going into the Flash folder in Windows/System32 and deleting files.None of these have worked.

Has anyone got any suggestions as to what to do?

I'm running IE9 by the way.

    Thanks!

Problem solved ..... ActiveX Filtering was ON. Disabled it ansd everything is fine!

    ...which sounds like my problem.

Trouble is I don't understand this techie-speak either. How do i go about this, if only to eliminate another possibility?
For what it's worth, I have just been able to start the Diana Rigg interview with Mark Lawson and that was fine.

buffering is where you have to wait a bit before the video starts
    while its filling the memory
with a fast connection it shoulnt really be required much
I would try a different browser opera, firefox or whatever just to test
  • As my only serious contribution to this thread, I endorse the advice to try another browser.

Doing that has worked for me in the past when something on a website won't run/load.

Thanks again custardy - my computer has been running very slowly, but this seems to be the norm these days.

My system info reads: Microsoft Windows XP /
    Home edition / Version 2002 / Service Pack 3.

    Does this help?

How do I try a different browser please?

I've never had i-olayer access problems before now.

Right - I've googled the Opera thing, but although the appropriate tabs pop up on my toolbar when I hit the button for download, nothing else happens.
    ############
    Correction: it's now downloaded.
Assume I just try i-player again?
    ############

Well, tried and had Upgrade Flash Player msg again, for 10.1, although it is actually 10.3 [as done earlier].
It then said to turn off opera or it couldn't install, although it is already installed.
This is the sort of thing that completely puts me off computers.

I watched i-player this morning[as often and with great pleasure] without any probs at all. Why do things get mucked about like this?

Was on a different site but it wouldn't play with Palemoon 6 or IE8 though it played with Firefox 7
