They should have but whether they will do it is another matter. The last time I got refused for a printed cert about 6 years ago just went the next day with the same docs and another post office worker accepted it.

In reality the post office should have moved on by now and they should be using the same system that is used for buying car tax online. If you have the car tax reminder thats sent through the post that should be all you need.

Difference now is that there is legislation which says they must accept it.

Clearly though some post offices are either ignoring it or aren't aware of it or we wouldn't have had this thread.

So you just tell the manager to read the direct.gov webpage.

In the main post offices you could probably do that. In my two local post offices you are usually dealing with the manager. I suspect most people who are being told they need a certificate that isn't printed are using the local post office rather than going into town.

That is the easiest solution, but that relies on the seller having a certificate of insurance for it.

So cant you just book it in for an MOT at the garage round the corner from yourself?

Last one I drove back 60 miles. That's a bit far to drive for an MOT. (And it still had 3 months on)

You could but then you'd either have to pay for an mot test or cause that garage to lose a paying slot
  • The days when you could get away with things like driving on old motor home with no tax etc are long gone.
Back in the day the lads in blue would pull you over in a Cortina or Mk2 Jag and tell you to get this piece of junk off the road and home to your drive asap.
Things have changed now sadly, you'll probably get more time inside than a killer for not ticking the correct box on a form and contravening some H&S law or other.

Has all this improvement benefited society? , well I'm sure in some ways it must have - though to be honest I would rather it be Britain 1962 than 2012 right now.
Though that's just me and my own opinion of course :)

so in answer to the question - no its not allowed they will send you to the gallows for it, cheered on by society whilst they do it.
