Really? I dunno. I lived in the rough part of Salford for quite a while and enjoyed living there, to a certain extent anyway.
I would say that the nice parts of Manchester to buy a semi-detached house are places like Chorlton, Didsbury, The Heatons, Worsley, Sale, Altrincham, Hale etc. etc. We looked at semi-detached houses in these areas but for something decent and old (don't like new houses) then you were looking at at least £200k plus, and probably £250k to 350k plus in a lot of those areas. A semi-detached in some of the okayish areas of Salford are still £150k+.
So aside from our differences in the terms 'nice', where are you looking around Manchester which is nice by your judgement and has semi-detached houses for £80k? You seem to be avoiding the question after making the statement.
I am in no way avoiding the question, like i said me and you have different opinions on what is a nice area. 5hit to you could be nice to me.
Which rough area of salford did you live in so i can gauge your judgement of rough areas.0 -

Yes you are. I've now asked you three or four times to simply state which area around Manchester that you deem nice are you looking to buy a semi-detached house for around £80k? It's a really simple question that just requires a one word answer.Which rough area of salford did you live in so i can gauge your judgement of rough areas.
M6 postcode area. Where the shopping centre was recently attacked during the riots.0 -

I don't know, I don't live there anymore.
You're still avoiding the question. Ahh, f*ck it, go on, I'll ask one more time and if you don't answer I'll just assume you're lying. Here goes. Which area around Manchester are you looking at, which you deem nice, where you can get a decent semi-detached house for £80k?0 -

Although the common view is that savers are being fleeced by the current high inflation/low IRs regime, it's interesting to reflect that if the only thing you're saving for is a house, then CPI/RPI is irrelevant. Someone earning say 3% on their savings over the last year has effectively earnt 5.6% when you combine that with the 2.6% fall in house prices.
Obviously no comfort for anyone saving for something other than a house but it's an interesting angle rarely mentioned in finance articles.0 -

Its nicer than the estates round the precinct.
Are you sure you used to live around that way:rotfl:
Its quite simple cleaver, which areas surround manchester. its one of them.
Like i said, my definition of nice is completely different from yours.0 -

Yes, I lived in a flat around that area for a few years. Didn't love the area, but I didn't hate it either. Loved the building and had nice neighbours. Decent links to the city centre. Lack of any real places to eat or drink out though. Its quite simple cleaver, which areas surround manchester. its one of them. Like i said, my definition of nice is completely different from yours.
There's literally hundreds of areas around Manchester. I don't get why you can't just name the area you were talking about so we can discuss it?
I presume you were lying and you actually don't know any nice areas around Manchester where you can get a semi-detached house for £80k. But that's fine, a lot of poeple on here make statements and are then unable to back them up when asked.0 -

Honestly Jimmy, I'm not trying to prove you right or wrong. There is no right or wrong places for people to live as every one has different needs and tastes And I'm certainly not going to judge someone on the area of type of house they live in, as I'm not an assh*le. Where you live is up to you, and good for you wherever you chose to live. I don't give two hoots what people thought of me when I lived in an ex-council flat in Salford.
I'm simply someone who spent a year looking at semi-detached homes all over Manchester and was surprised to hear you say that you'd found a nice area where you could get one for £80k. I therefore asked you where abouts. You've now spent about ten posts avoiding that question. If you don't want to say, then fine. But just say that.
Is the chippy you refer to Neil's? It was pretty good, but I thought it was overrated for the reputation it had.0 -
