Mmm... I was going to get a meter but reading these posts and because I only pay £31 per month unmetered I think I will leave well alone. I also did not realise that the charge per unit varies depending on where you live0

Depends on the supplier - but so does the RV calculated unit charge. We were paying £55 / mth until putting the meter in. And that's more than halved to £25 - despite the wife's love of taps which are on.
Look at the comparison link on one of the earlier posts - to determine if you gain?If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

Don't forget that if it is in an existing property you can get a meter and, if it works out more expensive, you have 12 months to revert back to the old RV system.0 -
We have a water meter on a 3 bed semi 3 of us live in it, and our payment is 27 per month0

220 cm3 does sem a little high for a family of 3.....if you have checked the meter overnight & that seems fine it might be worth checking things like the overflow from the loft which may leak for a while after its finished filling if the ball valve is faulty or does your toilet continue to fill & discharge a trickle of water into the toilet bowl for a while after flushing - I know a couple that had that causing an increase in thier bills.....
Contact your water board again to see if they can help trace the usageI THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0 -
Just me in the house, showers, washing machine, dishwasher, comes to £6 per month on Anglian Water SoLow rate!
(Check with your water company what rate you are on - there are usually three, the low usage rate where you pay a higher unit charge and no standing charge; a normal rate with normal usage and a standing charge, and either a 'capped' or high usage rate for those on certain benefits with children, or people with certain medical issues.)0 -

Its a dam joke. I can not go onto to water rates, as the meter has been in the house more than a year.
The water bill is just spiralling out of contral.
I have checked for leaks, and even reduced the amount we use.0 -
I read or heard about something similar-your water company can do some sort of averaging out if you are unhappy . There are 5 of us adults here . We have no meter and we live in leafy Richmond and our bill is about £400 per year .0

I'm on a meter and have been for 3 years. There are 3 in the house and the first year it was £19pm, next year was £16.50 and now I pay £15 a month.

Water charges vary a great deal across the country and the only way to work out if it is too high is by looking at the water consumption in cubic meters.
The OP uses 220 cu mtrs a year which is about 20% more than the average for 3 people. So presumably even if he reduced his consumption to average he would still be paying about £500.
In my area(Severn Trent) with 3 people in the house and using almost exactly the average(180 cu mtrs) my bill is over £400.0
