I rung this morning and left a message for a member of the team to contact me. As soon as they call me back I will explain what happened. How embarrassing though. :(

    I wouldn't even worry.

The same thing happened to me earlier this year. I went back the next day and found the owner and they were fine about it/said don't worry. I think it was more the point that I didn't realise that it had happened (it mush have just touched very gently) and I was just embarrassed, but that's why it's called an accident.

  • OP, I wish there were more lovely, honest people like you in the world. Please try not to worry too much, you have done the decent thing and a month down the line, it will all be sorted and you will look back and smile at the way you dealt with it xx
  • We bought a new car (new for us) this time last year, my OH picked it up late at night and drove it to work the next day. When he got back to his car there was a note on the screen left by a passerby who witnessed some a**** reverse into our car and drive off. We were left with a sizable dent and scratch on a car we hadnt even owned for 24 hours !!! (we were gutted, it was the newest most expensive car we had ever bought and there wasnt a scratch on it)

We contacted our police station who followed through with a visit to the gentleman in question, they then sent us a letter giving us his full address details (??) saying no further action would be taken. We only reported him to the police because he didnt have the common decency to leave a note of apology or even stop and check the damage he had caused.

It happens and it cant be helped, accidents are accidents after all, but its your actions afterwards that make the difference !

well done OP for owning up.

We had something similar happen to us mishka. But the culprit was a young girl who had just passed her test and was driving dad's car. The police paid a visit to her, found out what had happened, then came back to us and asked us if we were prepared to let the matter drop if her dad paid the cost od repair. Which we were of course. Failing to report an accident involving another vehicle is an offence so the police can take action if there are witnesses to the incident or corroborating evidence, such as damage to both cars.
  • the note described the driver as an "old scruffy looking man, car very battered and damaged" which we took to me some old codger who liked to use the bumper car method of parking his car :rotfl:

Someone rung me back, no one reported anything, she did say it was dark, they would not of noticed it, not to worry about it, and wait till next week/class to see if anyone does say anything. I said shall I wait in my car for that car to come, she just said its up to you. I will anyway, DD will go on in, while I wait... BUT I am not parking there again, I will park in the bigger car park and walk around.. lol

I had similar scrape on my car once before as in those photos and my friends husband got it out to the same result, you can only see it now if you look really close if you know where it is.

He polished it with some kind of wax or something? Im not really sure exactly what it was but something you could buy from halfords, it took him about 20 mins to do. That was 3 years ago and it still looks fine.

Well when i first past my test and got my first car I had a bang. I scraped the car next to me in my work carpark. The owner of the car didn't even realise they had a scratch until I mentioned it the next day and they were thankful I owned up saying most people would have just driven off and not said a word. Cost me £350 for them to have the damage repaired. It shows people the sort of person you are if you are honest.
