Hmmmm, unless you can pay it all off by May I'd wait and see what they offer you. December is only 5 weeks away (eek!)

You pay your bills by cheque?!

  • Haha I know, how traditional huh! Actually I only pay this one by cheque, I have a DD set up to pay the min balance then I use a cheque and the giro slip to pay off the extra I can afford each month as I can't a transfer to this one as my current account isn't with them...

  • a very productive lunch today..

Paid in £6 worth of pennies I had bagged up (remember those ones I wasn't allowed to pay in because of the 5 bag rule?!? Today I paid in 6 bags HA!)

Paid £80 extra of my halifax c card

Picked up prescription I'd been forgetting every day

Ordered statements for both my loans

I'll do my revision after work today I think! I have some exciting accounts waiting for me!!!

Yes you can. There'll be a sort code and account number you use, then you enter your credit card number as the reference number. You said it was a Halifax card? Is it a Halifax Visa? I can try and find out the detail;s for you (they are displayed in my internet banking when I set up a payment)

If its a Halifax Visa the sort code is 80-20-45 and their account number is 0021 3765 (just had a thought, is this written on the giro slip? I hope so, because I'd be more comfortable if you could verify it - then you'll know this isn't one of my accounts. Haha)

Just make sure you use your credit card number as the reference. Will be quicker and the money won't hang around in your account leading to accidents! Also saves on trees, postal time and waiting for it to get data entered :)

  • Where would I be without you??!?!

Yes that is indeed the account number they give on the giro slip. Happy days, now I can transfer more regularly too! I'll test it with a small amount tonight, then I can be much more on top of it

    Thanks!!!!

  • Just went through and put in all the information to set up the payment. Clicked confirm...

"Your new arrangement has not been set up. This is because this arrangement already exists"

    HAHA

As it is set up as a direct debit they've stored the details and I could have done this all along!

For an accountant I can be really dumb sometimes! Why is it I can manage millions of pounds of other peoples money but when it comes to my own.... lost cause!

Anyway, now that is done onto some revision, hopefully I can change another no in my sig!

  • I have just read your entire diary from start to finish, I think you have been brilliant (and was SO pleased to read about your friend waking up xxx) I was never as brave as you re telling friends, I love them very dearly but fessing up 25 grand worth of debt a few years ago, well I never thought they'd take it that well. I was worried about the pity and the advice (not terribly good at taking advice!!)

I am lucky in that I got a second job and used to say I didn't have the time or the energy to go out. And in the last few years my best friends have all had kids so our social life has changed dramatically - a bottle of Schloer and some cheesy wosits and we are sorted!! sad but true!

Don't get despondant about the debt being more than you thought, I did that too but in the end once your head is in the right place it all gets paid off and with the tips here you really feel like you are getting much more for you money in the long run, it is all good. I couldn't quite believe I had paid all mine off when it came to it in June. was an amazing feeling and it is coming your way!

    Nevertheless she persisted.

    Hi Buffy,

Thanks so much for taking the time to read and reply, the support really helps keep me on track.

I found it really hard to tell my friend this week and the reply was disapointing so I think I'll keep this between me, my diary and you lovely lot!

I love nights in like you describe and have really cut down on going out, I have planned all my social events between now and xmas and anything else is a no unless I have extra money from somewhere! A few people don't listen when I say I'm too skint to go out so sometimes I just tell a white lie and think in the end it's the right thing to do to save money and avoid the inevitable conflict that occurs as they don't think having no money is a good enough reason sometimes!!

Wow well done for paying all that off, I love hearing of stories like yours as it helps keep me motivated and it's so nice to hear it can be done!!!

Can I just ask if most of your mates are in the same kind of pay bracket as you are? I sometimes used to wonder how people could afford to be out so much and wear so many labels etc but years down the line I realise that a lot of them where very reliant on credit, some of them managed to keep their head above water, others didn't and have IVAs or serious money issues.

Only asking because if people are using credit a lot then that may be why you are not getting the kind of responses you expect. They probably think high level of debt is normal.

Not sure if any of this makes sense?
