I'm off to LID* tonight to shop for the week. Will hurt spending the money but it should reduce how much I spend the rest of the week!

It's not all bad if you reduce what you would have otherwise spent, work out the saving and that will be a positive!

Are meals at work provided for free or do you have to pay for them? If you have to pay then consider taking your own lunch in - there are loads of ideas on the Oldstyle board elsewhere on this forum.

When you go shopping - make a list and stick to it. Cook for food from scratch, freeze your leftovers.

Good things to buy in Lidl - Alfredo Lasagne (it is really tasty and quite cheap - plus they have started doing individual portions as opposed to the 1kg large one) - they have boxes of pizzas too in the freezer section - at the moment you can get a box containing 3 mozarrella and tomato pizzas (taste just like Dr Oetkers) for £2.

I'm really lucky that work gives us a £15 allowance for meals and cafeteria is open 7-6, so i have breakfast and lunch at work most days, the allowance usually lasts till Weds or Thurs and then you can top it up with cash. I let myself down in the evenings where i go for expensive convenience so thanks for the Lidl tips those are just the sorts of things that I'd be after, it will be worth stocking up the freezer and I do need to get back in the habit of cooking batch of spag bol

    Thanks!

  • Here goes day 2 of my £10 a day challenge, I'm hoping today will be a NSD as I want to put the tenner back in the pot. I'm going to Ascot at the weekend and whilst the tickets are free, refreshments will not so I need to save during this week to ensure I have some spends!
I am taking my colleague for a run at lunch to put her through her paces! I wish I'd discovered running before I joined the gym as that would have saved me £49 a month! Ah well, it can be cancelled soon and the date is in my diary
    Have a good day all

    Hi London Socialite

I have subscribed and am cheering you on! Would it be money-saving and diet-friendly to have breakfast at home (porridge), to stretch your allowance through til the end of the week?

Have you budgetted for a bet or two at Ascot, in the hope of winning enough to cover your night out? Good luck.

    Cheers, Satchmo x
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?
  • Hi Satchmo,
Thanks for your support!!! Food here is quite heavily subsidised so it probably wouldn't make much difference to be honest... but good idea!

Yeah, if I can have 3 NSD's through the rest of this week then that should allow me to have a little flutter! I hope I win, last time I broke even which I couldnt complain at!

    thanks :) x

  • Today going well after a rocky-ish start.
Went to the bank armed with the £71 in loose change from 20p and below all bagged up. Having carried it accross London breaking my back I arrived to be told that you can only pay in 5 bags a day !!!!!!?!?! So I paid in the 5 bags with largest values £45 and I will have to troop back tomorrow.

1st day back at work today after a week off and have been kept busy catching up, went for a jog at lunch with my friend and enjoyed the sun and a natter! I am on track for a NSD :) so that's a tenner in the Ascot pot for Saturday, I resisted temptation when asked to go to the movies with a friend and politley declined. Im staying behind at work to catch up on my accountancy coursework - that's right an accountant who clearly can't count!!
What a good Burnsey I am today...

  • What a joke! Which bank is it? At the local branch of my bank they have one of those coinstar machines like in the supermarkets, except instead of a cut being taken for charity, it all goes in your bank account. Unfortunately I ALWAYS raid my penny jar so much there's not been anything worth doing in there for a long time! :)

Well done on your jog. What an amazing day it is outside! They say it will continue into the weekend too :):)

    Hey!

Tell me about it - Nationwide! She said "its because they have to count it" right that satisfied me. NOT. Which bank is yours? I like the sound of that?! I had even bagged mine up in the right amounts and not mixed so had done the job for them!
Haha Mines been on for at least 2 years now so it was about time!

Thanks! Its gorgeous isn't it, cant wait to catch some rays! :)

  • Have they not heard of weighing scales?!? How frustrating.

I'm with HSBC. They are pretty good as long as you don't go over your overdraft, then it costs! Good high tech branches. The Internet banking is annoying because you have to use this keyring to get a login code every time.
