What to take on a long haul flight?

England v Scotland is fast approaching, but first I have to get to Auckland. :j
Can anyone tell me what they'd recommend taking on a long haul flight? i.e. stuff for on the plane?
Any other tips, like how I'm supposed to get some sleep, and how to stop the bloke in front reclining his seat and breaking my knees?
I'm not really looking forward to the flight...:o
Cheers,

If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

if he reclines his/her seat just keep nudging it,when they turn round be apologetic but tell them you cant help it you have no room to move with the seat reclined, they got 2 choices then, shift the seat back or carry on being nudged :-)0

Where can I get one of those clear bags you need for liquids? By tomorrow.

Get one from the airport - it may be free, you may be ripped off, but whatever you buy from outside won't be good enough for the UK Customs Gestapo.0

Ok, if they have them at the airport then that's fine.
I fully expect to pay £2.99 for a 5p bag - after all, everyone else seems to want a piece of me at the moment... If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
i just put my stuff in a clear plastic bag,if you want to buy maybe somewhere in airport will sell them.

I don't know what New Zealand airports are like, and this may sound obvious, but remember to keep your clear plastic bag.
I got a bag from a member of staff when flying to LA.
The american's didn't give out free bags, so had to buy one for the return journey.0 -

I just use a normal resealable freezer bag - about 100 for a quid in the supermarket.0 -

Upgrade to Business Class....?
On a serious note wear loose clothing on the flight and take a change of clothes.
Deodorant wipes
Good quality ear plugs will help with the sleep attempts
neck pillow.
After you have taken off, have a walk around to see if there are any spare banks of seats that you could occupy. Probably unlikely but worth a shot0 -

Not very MSE.
I am, however, praying that they've overbooked and will have to upgrade me for nowt.

 I don't think I own any loose clothing. I just wear jeans & a T-shirt, unless I'm going somewhere posh enough to require a suit.
I thought I had some ear plugs, but I think I must have left them at work.

If you wait until after take off then you will probably be too late.
What I always do is to have a look around for empty seats then have a quiet word with the senior cabin crew member.
Ask them if there are any vacant seats after the doors have been closed if it would be okay to move to one of them.
There are usually a few minutes before the doors closing and the aircraft starting to move and if you swop seats during this time you usually beat the after take off rush.0
