Have been onto the BBC website and e-mailed details of the problem - if anyone else wants to the website can be found at bbc.co.uk/watchdog - the more of us that complain about them the more likely they are to look into it! You never know they might even get a refund for those of us that have been overcharged! Worth a try anyway...

In my case they haven't managed to take any money from me as I quoted them a card online that was about to go out of date. They say they will pass on the £14.99 to a debt collection agency though - is that likely for that small amount or am I about to damage by credit rating by refusing to pay up?

The only way they can damage your credit rating is if they win a claim against you in the county court.

They will probably try all sorts of bully boy tactics and threats to get you to pay, but they probably will not take you to court for 14.99

Do you owe them 14.99? If you do, just pay them and get on with your life ;)

    Cheers, Des.

No I don't owe them any money - I cancelled the free trial before it ended and returned all the DVD's....

If I genuinely owed them the money I would have paid and would never have even discovered this thread....I assume that everyone on this thread has a genuine complaint against LOVEFILM, and find it strange that anyone would think anything else!!!

Not everyone is as honest as you are ;) That is why although I provided the info you need, I also made the point that if you did owe it, it would be better to pay.

Don't take it personally, there are a fair few people on here who try and find ways of not paying money they owe, and I have no intention of helping people like that :)

Back to the matter in hand, as I said, if you don't owe them the money, they can't affect your credit rating, before that could happen, they would have to get a judgement in the county court against you.

If the "debt" is passed on to debt collectors, just send them a letter back disputing the claim detailing the situation, and you'll probably never hear from them again.

If they decide to take you to court, you have printouts detailing your cancellation, well, the judges are sensible folks in the main part.

(I have sent off my letter disputing that I owe them anything, I havn't heard anything back, but if I do, I'll post on here)

    Cheers, Des.

    :j

Have heard from a Rachel Collins today who is the customer services manager - she said she was replying on behalf of Mark Livingstone (the CEO) and that on this occasion they would refund the charge and cancel my account....RESULT!

Thanks for the advice guys and just keep digging away at them - I hope the names I've provided are of use to those of us who have had problems with them and in future I will be checking this thread from problem companies before I sign up to anything - free trial or not!!! :T

Well done! Glad to hear you got it sorted, don't suppose you got an apology too, or is that too much to ask these days ;)

As I said, I'll post if I get any reply back, although I doubt they'll bother.

    Cheers, Des.

Nope no apology - they still tried to spin it as if it was my fault and they were just doing the refund as a goodwill gesture. The main thing is as far as I'm concerned I had a lucky escape from a company who obviously have a pattern of mis-charging.

I think the thing that finally did it was my insitance that if they continued to persue me for the money I would report them to trading standards - plus I had the e-mail to back up the claim....

Good luck, I hope you get it sorted Des...

I've just cancelled my membership after being with them for a few months. I have sent my last dvd back and emptied my queue, and my subscription is meant to run out on 16th but i am worried they might try to charge me again. I've tried removing my card details but it wont let me. Is there a way around this?
    Errrr...come back later ;)
  • I gave this mob a week's notice about cancelling my membership and what happens they took my £12.99 out after my free trial.I even resent the email they sent me telling me how sorry they were that i had cancelled. Now they are saying i didnt properly cancel my membership. Now i am going to phone up to cancel it and if i find out more money has gone out i am going to watchdog.

Yes, similar happened to me - I was very annoyed too and never got a refund. Have to agree it's not worth it on the off chance that you may get a few free rentals. They do not reply to emails or if they do it's just a standard cut and paste which doesn't address your complaints.
