Yuk, doesn't it stink when you leave it unflushed? I couldn't live with that. Not very fair on the next user, is it?

Can't you put a brick in the cistern so that it doesn't use so much water but still deals with the waste?

If you manage to get it scrubbed up, I hope you won't let the same thing happen again. I'd rather save bathwater in a few buckets than not flush at all  .
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Get some "Spirits of Salts" (Hydrochloric acid) available from most hardware shops or chemists. Use rubber gloves, and keep your face away, cos of the fumes (open the window too). Soak up all the water in the bowl with an old towel, and pour on. It'll fizz and stink! but not for long. Give a quick scrub with the toilet brush, flush , and voila! One sparkling clean toilet!

Try cream cleaner, using a toilet brush to scrub it.

So good to see you back! I know where you got the vinegar tip!!! Hope your move to Germany went well.

Re the toilet, I bale out, pour bleach down the sides for an hour or too and then scrub. I think it probably depends on water hardness/softness on how staining builds up.

Hope you sort your problem out.

The bailing out can be helped by starting with plunging it forward, i.e. wrap a couple of cloths around your hand (pref I hold a sponge to make the "human bung" wider) and use your hand as a plunger. The cloths can then be used to soak out the rest of the water. Starting with an empty loo is better for spotting where exactly to clean. I find a scrubber backed sponge is ideal.:- Cleaner of choice, neat Stardrops, scrub directly onto stains. Flush to finish. STERILISE PLUNGER CLOTHS.

Harpic power cleaner. Not OS I know, but shifts everything and no nasty fumes like spirits of salts. Also descales without having to bale out the water and works in only 20 mins. I don't use it every time I clean (do the flylady thing of having old shampoo in my toilet brush holder) but a squirt every week or so brings it back up to as new
  • You could try soda crystals , or cilliat bang, limscale cleaner or kettle cleaner , then once youve got the briliant shine back ,just douse round the toilet with bleach 2-3 times a week and use a splash of wasing up liquid on the other night Ace......
Don't sweat the small stuff, Its all small stuff.
  • Wondering if sterilising tablets might do the trick?
I like cooking with wine......sometimes I even put it in the food!

As far as I know, bleach will just whiten the limescale in hard water areas. I agree with Nicki on the use of Harpic, if you use vinegar you only need to do this once in a blue moon, but it is the only cleaner which I have found to work in a hard water area...mind you a good scrub everyday keeps the lavatory clean, just limescale to be dealt with.
