enforced NSD for me today as STILL no fee cheque:mad:
I was messing around with the meal plan last night and decided that, rather than do a day by day plan, I would make a list of 14 breakfasts, lunches and dinners which can be made with what I have in, and then just tick them off when we have eaten them. That way I can still have a choice every day as I really don't like the regimented meal plan thing. It is now on the notice board!
Today it was porridge for breakfast, lunch is sandwich for DD2 (packed lunch) with a bit of l/o quiche and some fruit - DD1 is coming home for lunch and will have heated up cheesy bake from last night, I don't know what I will have because I am still really really full from the porridge and can't think about eating when I am like this. Dinner is "chickeny rice" - I just soften some onions and mushrooms and then stir in a large mug of rice and two and a half mugs of water. I throw in two knorr chicken cubes (bought LOADS from AF on the 49p case offer) and some mixed herbs. I simmer it for about 20 minutes and then throw in some cubed l/o roast chicken, frozen peas and sweetcorn and cook until all the liquid has absorbed. Then I stir in a knob of butter (or Clover as butter is now too expensive) and serve! DD's love itJane

I am not sure if it is all stores as mine is just a food only one but they had lots of chocs and bics on a half price offer so I expect it might be all stores. They were £4 instead of £8 and in a red gingerbread man shaped tin with a gingerbread man on the top:)Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%

Been and done my shopping, spent £5.92 in HB on pet bedding which will last the rest of the month and £26.29 in Mr A, got 3 lots of meat for £10 so that was a big chunk of it, got loads of walkers crinkle crisps reduced from £1 for 6 to £0.50 for 6 as the bags were ripped, all still contain 6 bags and we love them in our house so that was great, so chuffed cause i never get bargains!!
Hope everyone is doing well - we are getting a cat tomorrow so I have to factor cat food into the budget but we are nearly half way through the month and I have loads in so I am not too worried - YETTo get to Disneyland Florida 20160 -

Just popped in to update my spends. Spent £21.20 at S*insburys because I needed milk and had a friend of DD's staying over...wish I hadn't bothered as they went out and had a chinese:mad:. Did get 2 "free" pizzas with the vouchers and took the 2 for £4.50 deal money off my bill too. Have since had 2 NSD's, and planning more over the weekend as we're away next weekend for a week and will try and use up what's in, although am thinking since we're in a cottage may make a couple of meals like veggie shepherds pie and lasagne to take with us to just heat up when we've been out all day. Will try and stay in budget- have sorted out the T*sco vouchers so we can get a couple of meals out with much cost, have already paid for train tickets for one of the days out and planned free activities to do. We shall see.
Tonight I think we'll have sausages with something, not sure yet...Grocery challenge October: £228.28/£250.00 NSD 4 ( not completed)

I can recommend this recipe for cookies. We came across it because I was looking for a recipe without butter (because we'd run out). http://www.cookiemadness.net/2009/04/one-bowl-no-mixer-chocolate-chip-cookies-made-with-olive-oil/ To me they taste like bought cookies. Slight changes to recipe

Thanks for this - looks nice, might try it. Do you use plain flour when it says "white whole wheat flour"?recovering_spendaholic wrote: »Dinner is "chickeny rice" - I just soften some onions and mushrooms...
Ooo, got "easy risotto" on my plan for Sunday, might try this too! Thanks :T
Just updated my spend after last night's big shop - looks bad for this point in the month but I'm actually quite happy. Got £20-ish left to spend, and I'm only expecting to buy milk, bread & maybe a bit of fruit next week. the following Thursday (Thursday is groceries day) we'll be driving down the M6 for a long weekend, so won't be spending then either. Food for the weekend comes out of the holiday budget instead! So I think I'm on track, maybe, I hope!0 -
My tesco shop came to £35.80 and included 16 tins of tuna, 5 tins chick peas & 8 tins of tomatoes which will last well into november.
I don't pass any sizeable supermarkets on my way home anymore so actually going and buying food requires real effort. I still refuse to use corners shops so I've had 12 NSDs so far this month. Even if i walk a longer route home it's an awkward time for whoopsies about an hour before everything goes to ~75% off at asda and they reduce any bakery items, but then the f/v which is worth paying half price for has already been snapped up!Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -
still doing well this month
total spends of approx £185 so far when normally i'd be close to or even over budget by now.
getting better at only buying what i need which is making a huge difference. today i popped into mr t to see if they had any of the £1 nappies & clothing came out with........... nappies, a couple of pairs of jeans all at £1 eachand 3 bananas costing 21p nothing else.
total spends today £4.21 in mr t & 60p in sains on 6 ice lollies(reduced to 10p each)as a treat for the kids as I said they couldnt have ice-cream from the van.
dont really need anything over the weekend so hoping for a couple of nsdthis year do something that scares you for courage is not the absence of fear just the knowledge that some things are worth the risk0
