October 2011 Grocery Challenge

This month I have economised on milk without suffering in any way simply by buying the full fat milk instead of the Semi skimmed and watering it down. Tastes the same! I find that I can add about 1.5 pints to a fourpinter or you could try adding 500ml to a 2 litre. Start off small by adding just half a pint to your four pinter and if you don't notice it(you won't ) then next time add a pint. See how it goes-I think I could probably get away with adding 2 pints of water to 4 pints of milk-i am working up to it!ChasingButterflies wrote: »
I occured to me this morning when I finished one of the 4 pinters of milk that I bought yesterday at 4.30pm  So far this month I must have spent around £51 on milk alone - that is 1/8 of my budget!
.
I pour off some of the milk from the "new" bottle" and top up that new bottle with water. Ive been measuting in a jug. I pour this excess milk into my current nearly empty bottle so that Ive now got room for the "extra" milk. Nobody here has noticed :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0 -
NSD for me today - although Him Indoors finally got paid for some work he did last month, so he's treated us to a big Chinese takeaway this evening [and I've kept some non-rice leftovers for my lunch on Monday, too] :j
A bit short on veg, but otherwise stocks are still pretty high, so no plans for buying anything more than a few bits over the coming days. But...
I WILL MAKE A LIST... AND I WILL USE IT [for a change]
Haven't done the GC since February, but a glance at the Tower of Receipts tells me I really need to get back into it... and plenty of other Challenges besides.

Went to $ainsburys tonight to pick up a few things. Managed to get a whole roast chicken for £1.99 - that's tomorrow's dinner sorted. I have my mum and my friend coming round for dinner. Also picked up some of my flavoured water and some cooked meats for next week's lunches. So total of £9.47.
So at the end of October challenge I have spent £150.93. Almost £10 under budget for the first time.No buying toiletries Graduated May 2017Decluttered 2016 2469 items, 2017 1580 items :j2018 3060 itemsSealed Pot Challenge No 0380 -

I am really pleased with this but we have been eating out of the freezer this month and it has made a huge difference.
I wish I could only spend this amount every month I would be quids in

Morning - I've just decided to declare for October today as the budget is gone, I'm having a small delivery today and it either goes into my other account which I think is cheating, ie I would be 'losing' it from the challenge, or it goes in November.
So my final total is ££414.52 £34.52 over. I thought I was going to do better than this tbh but it ran away with me a bit at the end ie I failed to stop spending. This month I will be blaming higher prices and shrinking products of course (grrr) and my own total failure to plan.
Next month needs to be much better and a lot of porridge and soup will be consumed. I am also going to try and plan for a whole month. Need some more Xmas funds!August Shopping Challenge. 26/8. Budget £250 Spent £256.81.. £6.81 over. So £0.00 a day left.0 -
Morning all, declaring at £96.13 for the month, the first time I've ever managed to stick to my budget of £100 :j
Now I just to repeat that over the coming months...

Daytrip related expenses for yesterday
£1.85 for margarine at the local shop to make sandwiches
£3.60 at Greggs after discovering DDs friend didnt like cheese sandwiches
£4.50 at the museum gift shop (which i normally manage to sneak past when its just me and the Dds)
Really need a good shop but will struggle on until my November budget
Should be a NSD today as no plans to set foot outside the houseJanuary grocery challenge £159.43/£250.00
February grocery challenge £209.53/£200.00
March grocery challenge £165.66/£190
April grocery challenge £186.27/£170.00
May grocery challenge £22.51/£180.000 -
Well i'm declaring £336.22 which is a massive overspend but its done, my cupboards and freezers are bursting, so decided to run everything down and hopefully only spend £150 in november.
Umm we will see!0 -
Hope everyone's having a good weekend.
After my disasterous attempt to do an online shop yesterday (failed miserably after 2+ hours:mad:) I'm going to declare at £95.93 / £100 for October.
Just managed to scrape in under budget - I think being housebound has helped as the temptation to stop in at the shops on the way home hasn't been there!:o
Need to try to keep this up once I'm out and about again which will be a lot harder:(. A bigish online order every couple of weeks may be the way to go but I do miss actually going into the shop (does that make me odd?) so not sure I'll be able to keep this up!:)
Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
2016 Sell: £125/£250
£1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!0
