OP - Note that by mentioning the specific clients of an MS company you work for, you are in breach of the confidentiality agreement with the company - Might be worth adjusting your post.

And of course, new shoppers please be aware by doing this work you have to register as self employed and complete Self Assesment. Tax is payable on all the job fees you collect minus expenses.

As for Gapbuster I have never had a major problem with them in 2 years and over 1000 assignments. I have always been paid for all jobs including when reciepts were not avaliable and they can be very flexible.

I have worked for GAP for almost 4 years and apart from a little hic cup over Xmas I have never had a problem, people have to be a little patient with them as they are based in Australia, do not have a contact number, have to rely on e-mail and have a database of over 10000 shoppers, so you won't always get a reply within 24 hours, or as some expect in 2 !!! Don't take it for granted if you haven't been paid, that you won't be paid, have you spoken to them ?, e-mail them with the date, job and payment query and they will get back to you and the chances are, it will put on the next pay run.

Sometimes a job has to be cancelled after you have done the job as the client has changed their mind, the cancelled jobs are not automatically put on the payment run, they have to be manually added, it could just be human error.

I now audit for them as well and love it, it is better money and regular work and fits in with their other little jobs which are not so well paid.

They are a genuine company, if that's what you're worried about. :) I know a lot of MSErs who work for them - including myself.

And yes, working for Gap is not easy money, but it all depends on your circumstances and organisation skills whether it's worth it. I haven't had any problems with them so far. :)

    Hi,
I applied for TNS about two weeks ago and got a short email today saying I had been unsuccessful. I spent ages filling in their questionnaire according to the advice booklet and as a Sociology student am used to filling in surveys and taking notes! The email doesnt explain why I was unsuccesful, has anybody else been refused recently or is it just me..........?

As a reasonably intelligent person (even if i do say so myself) i'm slightly disappointed.

Chezza262, it might be the case that it wasnt your form filling but they may already have enough shoppers in a certain area of the country for example or have enough people to fulfill their contractual requirements back to the companies (I know some MS companies do particularly like people who have previously worked in Retail for example, especially if they need a high volume / professional shopper for certain contracts).

As TNS work more as an employer / employee situation as opposed to other MS companies who work more a Freelance / Contractor / Membership styles, there could be a whole host of other reasons - You could ask for feedback. But dont forget there are masses of other companies as well to apply for and join so dont loose faith.

I have joined up to grass root mystery shoppers, I also do gap buster and find them very annoying and are very tight with payments.
Are the assignments on grass root like gapbuster where you do a client search or do they send you assignments in your area?

    Thanks

Thanks for the advice, will email for feedback. I was hoping for TNS purely because it works as an employee/employer relationship.....I have had to be self employed before and for very little money there was a lot of paperwork!
