1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30 working days are allowed for 'dispatch time' when creating a listing. so by your argument above, only 1 working day is acceptable and should be the only option ebay offer then?

2 working days. 2nd class. free p&p. that is irrelevant. by committing to buy then the buyer is agreeing to the listing specifics inc delivery times. if they are not happy with the specifics in the first place, then they go elsewhere. now if the item is late and arrives outside the delivery times then yes give me all you got.

No, it's not irrelevant when the reality is that an awful lot of buyers don't read the item specifics as carefully as you've written them!

All that matters to most buyers is the price and how quickly it gets to them.

Lots of buyers don't leave stars for the service you've provided as stated on your listing, but whether their expectations of how soon an item 'should' arrive has been fulfilled and as we know, lots of buyers seem to want it yesterday.

The star system for private sellers is terribly unfair because buyers don't know how to use it. Many just don't know how much damage a 4/5 can do when they think they're leaving a good score.:(

I think Oliver as merely saying the same thing as me, buyer leave stars based on their perception of the sale. Therefore if your despatch stars are being noticeably hit then regardless of what you or ebay say- the buyers are not happy. So the only way round that is to improve your despatch times. As you say you cannot do that then you might have to accept that your stars will never be perfect. Just keep an eye on the expanded seller dashboard though- too many 1 or 2 * there will be a problem. The main stars though merely have to stay at 4.6 or above to be OK.

I switched to 1st class postgae a long time ago as a simple way to improve my delivery times, I always try and post next day (but still get alot of 4/5 on delivery times and costs)..

I even got a 1 or 2 for communication recently, I send invoices and dispatch confirmations...what more do they want!
  • A lot of people probably don't look at the delivery information either; it's just price, description, delivery charge. I know i don't check it unless it's for something that I want fairly urgent.
As i don't often read them I'll set the delivery time but put a note in the listing advising that I can't always get to the office at lunch, so i've set the delivery time so I can post on a Saturday

thanks. they are tight already and can't go any tighter.

They're not. I send same day if its post and they buy before 3pm. I've had many feedbacks where they say they've bought around dinnertime and at 9am the following morning it is on their doorstep.

That is the kind of service more and more sellers are offering and you need to compete with that. As a buyer, I hate having to wait a week to get something even when it says that on the delivery because someone sends it second class and takes 2 days to get around to posting it.

And if there are two items, one delivered in 1-3 days and the other 5 to 7, I'll go for the first even if its a bit more expensive. Might be worth bearing that in mind.
  • I use 2nd class, and regularly get "fast postage", I tend to post same day or next day - although this will change slightly as I'm going back to Uni and I won't be able to post on a Monday. I have only had one problem really, when said buyer expected me to post on a bank holiday :rotfl:

I use 1st class if I miss my next day policy.

Maybe you should start using 1st class?

All mine is 2nd class and usually goes next day- for one heady moment my despatch stars hit 5 last month. (back down to 4.9 now)

There are lots of things you can do that are listed within ebay rules. It doesn't mean that they are advisable if you wish to succeed. Ebay has moved on in the past 10 years. Customers are more demanding from online retailers and ebay buyers are also and dont really care if you are a private seller or a business.

Since the introduction of DSRs stanards have been increased yet again (if DSRS were a good idea is another debate). The buyers have the powere(and rightfully so as they have the money). So if you wish to sell you need to meet the expected standards otherwise buyers will mark you down for this and it could effect your selling.

I have my ebay listsings set on a 2 day dispatch. I send all my stuff 2nd class but I dispatch the same day or following day. If my life gets in the way and I dispatch later I upgrade to 1st class at my expense. Customers dont normally look at your listed dispatch times and as others have said the majority do not differentiate between dispatch and postal time. It may not be fair but thats what you need to deal with to be a successful ebay seller.

I noticed the other day that all of mine are for the moment on 5 for the last 3 months. So I keep taking a look at them as I'm sure that won't last.
