now i have my xp disc but cant find the key, its not on the tower, so, what if i get another xp disc, and use that instead, with its own key?

Other than that it looks like i may have to take into a shop to get them to find my key code!

Speccy will tell you

You will need to use the same key as is installed

The disc used is not important, as long as it is the same version as you have installed

The serial key could be on the CD case or cover

how can speccy help? if i cant get in to use it? confused.

looked for the key on the tower, not there and have lost cd case.

A friends said he will send me a copy disc and said he cant talk me thru loading it then finding the key through that, does that make any sense? he generally know his stuff but lives very far away to actually do it for me.

Post what your friend suggests and someone can guide you through it

If they are just sending an XP CD, no need as you already have one

what you need is a hiren's bootcd, which has speccy and SIW on it. Boot from that and run either to find your windows product key

Have you got a programme to burn an ISO image files to CDR?

If not, you could use imgburn

friends will send disc with keyfinder and cracking software on it, then i will see it i can do it from that.

I found an old pc in the loft, so my mate removed the drive and replaced mine with it, also found stupid key sticker on the back of my screen, so now xp is up and running . Its not the best spec but ok for visiting kids to mess about on.

Need advice on transferring files from old drive now, I took into the local shop and for £20, they can transfer the info to my own laptop, which has vista. dont mind paying that to save me messing with it.. but they say as its a different system ,xp to vista , he had to google re aol files, then he said he couldnt guarantee finding them, and if he did find them, couldnt guaranatee that aol on laptop could open them.
what to do? surely the shop experts would knw there stuff?

Friend has a caddy and offered to move them over, but i dont want him seeing my private emails.
