where are aol files saved?/ cant load xp

Options
hi folks, any help much appreciated..

I am confused as to where saved files are saved on aol.

On my laptop i have selected to save files to AOL. so i think they are on the aol server? I can only see files saved which were received on the laptop, not any saved on my pc.
on my old pc i have stuff saved which I can only access on that pc but not through my laptop... does this mean that those emails files are stored on my hard drive? I must have chosen the option to save them to my pc, as opposed to save to aol!

also I cant load windows xp, it starts to load then goes blank. Have tried safe mode but still nothing.
Am concerned that if i take it to ths shop to have the files all saved., put back after all checks are done and fixed, that i will not be able to keep my previously password protected saved emails , safe from the rest of the family.

See if you can choose safe mode with command prompt to run system restore with it

Or, if you have the XP CD

I have been searching for answers before i posted here, I am not very up on stuff really, my main concern as I said was protecting my private stuff.

oops! now as we speak I have message telling me to run chkdisc, cant recall how to do it!!

If the hard disk isn't faulty, a usb disk caddy costing under £5 will enable you to rescue all your files, then you can reinstall windows

    chkdsk c: /F

" Windows XP repair feature won't delete your data, installed programs, personal information, or settings. It just repairs the operating system. "

You can follow the other guide or this one, which is probably easier to use

Do not select the repair using the recovery console, you need what will be the first option, to set up Windows XP now, press enter

Not a definitive way but you won't be able to run the repair install most likely if the hard drive has an error

Hopefully if you get it repaired, and access to the files you need, that is when you can look at backing them up and re-installing
  • wont let me run the command. dont understand the message it gave next

Did you start the PC with the XP CD in the drive, with the boot order set to CD ROM then Hard Drive?

    You should see

Press any key to boot from CD

    Then

Set Up is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration
  • I shall have time tomorrow to try out everything. Luck i neeed it!
    thanks again.
