He currently brings home just over a grand a month, the job he has now is site labourer and the site he is on is due to be handed over before christmas so he will be out of work again.

He has got no chance of ever getting a deposit together for a home of his own because he is always in and out of work plus rents for a one bed place around here are around £400 then all bills on top plus running a van so he cant do that.

He has got his name down on the housing list but as he is a single working man he is last on the list. He was offered a temporary room in a hostel when he got divorced but decided against this and chose the garage instead.

The situation above is just the same as all the other peoples situation really, lots of people live with their parents because they dont earn enough to buy or rent, he lives in the garage at his sons.

Im presuming your imaginary friends earn a better wage than my imaginary friends do.

I accept that it is very difficult to rent a flat if you are on the minimum wage but that has been the case for a long time. What happens if you have no choice someone I know is not able to live with his parents he earns the minimum wage and normally does not get full weeks employment. He rents a room in a house and doesn’t run a car he does get some LHA.

I imagine these adult babies could rent a bed-sit or such accommodation if there on the minimum wage. Everything is possible when one put's ones mind to it. It just takes balls, guts, and a flair for independence to stand on your own feet and live your own life, not your parents.

Takes more balls to tell f**kwits like you where to go and ignore those who either don't understand or are ignorant to what young people face these days.

It just takes balls, guts, and a flair for independence to ignore the haters and do what is best for the long term to stand on your own feet and live your own life without ever enriching a landlord.

I ask this as a genuine question, what would I gain from moving into a bedsit now? if you are kind enough to answer that direct question I will tell you exactly what I would lose to balance the equation.

Self respect 6 months earlier in your life or a house and a place to call home after 6 months more at home???

Stupid argument. I might agree if person in question was over 25. However, under 25 id say stay put if possible but dont be at home alot, give them there own space and work yourself like never before and get whats required to get into a much more secure position before moving out.
Work in progress...Update coming July 2012.

I expect he is well aware of the problems and has succeeded in doing what he set out to do.

I have more than enough self respect and know I am doing what is the best for the long term (read: rest of my life).

Yes if my mummy tucked me in and read me a bed time story every night maybe then maybe you are right. But currently its more or less a rent a room with people I know very well, I really can't see the problem.

I should still be 28 when I buy so all is well then.
