Haven't you saved tens of thousands as a deposit for a house? If you're doing that can afford to contribute to a pension.

Most of the research on pensions show that young people don't invest in pensions because they don't understand them, don't see the point and prefer to spend the money on other stuff, not because they can't afford them. You would presumably fit in to the last one, in that you've concentrated just on a house deposit and gone for an 'eggs in one basket' approach.

Yes thats right, all my eggs are in one basket. Im saving up to put a roof over my head. wether or not i have any money when i retire is not really my main worry at the moment as i am saving up to put a roof over my head. If i paid into a pension as well it would take me even longer to achieve my basic human right of shelter.

Money on other stuff = house deposit:rotfl:

A lot of young people seem to have this attitude in the modern day and it's really quite concerning.

Shelter is a basic human right, but buying a house isn't.

so let me get this right.

    Shopping at tescos = bad

Buying a house to profit from = good.

A house is not a sandwich mate, it is shelter, people make a sandwich then sell it to make a profit, the profit from the sandwiches will someday get the sandwich seller enough profit so that they can then go and buy a house (shelter).

Yes i think you should get rid of all your investments in basic human needs.

    Fcuk tescos:)

So anyone outbidding others for basic human needs = bad.
I presume you don't ever buy food you don't eat? Or continue to eat when you're full just cos it's there?
You see, pretty much all of us in the west have contributed to spiralling food costs recently. Our economic might ensures we don't go hungry but of course plenty do.

Now I realise (as no doubt do you) that you, by yourself, not wasting any food isn't going to help anyone in, for example, Africa.
Equally me, by myself, selling my one rental property isn't going to help you buy a property.

It's more just a question of perspectives isn't it jimmy?

I miss people on this forum that we can have these discussions with. Is anyone else out there?

Sorry cleaver. The forum has "evolved".
It became an arms race quite a while ago. Ever more vociferous arguments have required ever more strident and extreme personalities/views.
It really is now either black or white. No shade of grey is to be considered by either "side" as to do so would be an admission that the other "side" had some valid points which might transfer to other points....

    or something like that.

People are not going to change my opinion on BTL being a bad thing by mentioning africa.

Of course not. I expected nothing else.
That would require you to take a breath and consider just for a fleeting moment that perhaps there are shades of grey.
It's just easier to "rant" about the "enemy" isn't it? Keeps it nice and simple for you.
