Premier Direct & Premier Current Account (A&L) gives free travel insur

Options
I've just had a letter saying my free travel insurance from my bank is due for renewal. Well, that's news to me - I've always taken out my own insurance for holidays.

I was originally with A & L, which is now Santander. I have never before been advised that I have travel insurance included. There is no monthly fee for my account. I rang the insurance company to check, and they confirmed it so I have asked them to send the policy documents.

Now I am wondering if there are any other benefits I am entitled to with my bank account that I am not aware of. Anyone know? I am reluctant to ring the bank to ask in case they have made a mistake and I lose the travel insurance.

I used to have this account, and used to get a policy renewal document each year. Never used it as it was only European cover, as we holiday mainly in the US, but its always been a feature of the account.

There aren't any other benefits attached to the account that I can remember

I used to have this. I got there by being migrated from an original Girobank account. I recall there was also a £5/month "underfunding fee" if you didn't pay a sufficient amount of money into the account every month.

£500 was the minimum per Month
  • Thanks all for posting. I thought I knew all about my account - but apparently not.
  • Exactly which account is this? I have 2 premier direct accounts (were A&L now Santander) and never heard of this travel insurance
  • It used to be worldwide cover, then they reduced it to european cover. You can also upgrade the policy (for a fee) to worldwide or family but I don't know how reasonable the upgrade premium is.

Automatically at this time of year we get sent our new cover note/schedule for the year ahead.

I'm not the only one then. It applies to the Premier Direct account. It was A & L, but now Santander (who have kept the same account name). I was never informed that I had this insurance or received any renewal letter until now. I have had the account for many years. The letter from Ageas Insurance says 'free annual European multi-trip travel insurance'

Are you sure? I've had several Premier Direct accounts over the last 4 years or so, and hold one currently, but as far as I am aware the travel insurance only came with the Premier account, ie the one you get postal statements for...not the Premier Direct one that sends an e-mail telling you your statements are available to view online.

I had the Premier Direct, and had it on mine. The insurance used to be underwritten by Fortis, and I used to get a renewal letter about it every April

  • I have a Premier direct account and have had travel insurance the whole time I have had it. Unfortunately it only covers up to age 65 so I no longer can benefit but my OH can ( the young thing!)
