Halifax pet insurance ending

I have 4 cats insured with Halifax, 3 old cats and a youger one. I had a letter in Nov stating that the ins would not be renewed when it runs out in Jan 2012.
Have been insured with Halifax for 4 years and it was always underwritten by BDML. In Jan 2011 I was told that this was going to be taken over by Agria. I had no option but to go with them. Halifax have said that they would send me some quotes from Petwise but all existing conditions would not be covered.
Well recieved the quotes this morning, all had increased by at least £30.00 per month, no existing conditions were covered, and SURPRISE SURPRISE, the company that were underwriting the policies was BDML! Absolutely disgusted with Halifax, I would never have changed from BDML, but the Agria policy was forced upon us. This is all the Halifaxs' fault by changing the underwriters from BDML to Agria and back to BDML.0 -
Has any one had the fortune to receive a letter from Halifax Pet Insurance on this matter?0

I've had a letter from Halifax telling me to ring if their withdrawal from the pet insurance market had caused me any difficulty or inconvenience. I did so & was offered £1390 compensation in full & final settlement. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I don't know whether to accept or go to the Financial Ombudsman for a higher amount. My dog has a chronic condition which is now uninsurable elsewhere.0

How long have you been with the halifax to get offered compensation? I also have a dog with a chronic condition who i have had insured with them since 8 weeks of age who is now 3 1/2 and have written numerous letters to them and just been told in so many words tough luck, seems some people are being offered compensation and others not which seems very strange!!!!0

Hi
I've been offered £2500 for our 13 year old cat with an on-going conditiion. Have been insured with halifax for 5/6 years. However, our 12-year old dog who is also insured with Halifax and has an on-going heart/pancreatic condition has not prompted the same goodwill payment. The Petwise quote was three times what we currently pay and wouldn't cover him for his existing conditions! I have written/phoned on numerous occasions and will continue to do so. BDML have confirmed they've passed details of our dog to Halifax. I understand from conversations with them and Halifax that if your pet has an on-going condition and you have a history of claims and have made a claim in the last year (2011), then details are passed to Halifax for consideration/compensation.0 -
Hi
I have just read your post, what part of halifax are you contacting have you got a number that you are using? I have written letters to halifax and bdml and have been told in so many words tough and get on with it, my westie has been insured with them for 3 1/2 since he was 8 weeks of age and has a chronic skin condition i insured him in 2008 it does seem people are being compensated that have been with them for more than 5/6 years for some reason and other people not been with them so long are getting nothing.0 -
I received the letter from Halifax and was offered £1030 gesture of good will. My Yorkshire Terrier has been insured with Halifax since six weeks old and he is now 6 yrs old and suffers from fits that require ongoing treatment to keep under control. I have claimed for the past 3 years since diagnosis and this will require ongoing treatment for the his life time and the ailment will no longer be covered, annual cost of approx £400. Like many others i am grateful for the offer that was not expected but was wondering if it is worth holding out for more, or maybe we should just be thankful for the offer as many are not even receiving that.0

My only suggestion would be to take the lump sum offered and try to find a bank account with a decent rate of interest, and use it to pay for your pets problems until it runs out.
What an awful situation to be in. My bank cancelled their insurance a few years back but luckily I hadn't needed to claim. It was a huge hassle trying to find another policy I was happy with, and I can't imagine the stress you are all under knowing you will need to pay in the future.0 -
I spoke to halifax directly today and was told that the goodwill payments are only being made if you meet a certain criteria which eventually i got out of the girl that you have had to hold pet insurance with them for over a certain period and that the reason i haven't got anything offered was because my policy has only been running since 2008, they admitted that when i took out my policy it was sold to me as a lifetime policy and i said that this means nothing when they can just pull the plug at anytime, i have also phoned the insurance ombudsman today who have said not to have any further contact with them and they will now deal with this the girl i spoke to was very helpful she said she cannot guarantee that i will get anywhere but it certainly seems unfair that some people are being compensated and others not when we all took out lifetime policies, she said it can take up to 6 months to get a result but im not gonna let this rest on principal, i would be interested to hear how long the people have had policies running that were offered goodwill payments.0

Hi there
Any more news regarding the compensation? I have read your post above and exactly what you have said has happened to me and we are waiting to send off Halifax's last reply to the Financial Ombudsman ~ it seems that we too have been let down it's not fair as we have to go on paying out now to the Eye Clinic for Jess's condition. Wish something could be done.
