In the Money section (my favourite;)) there is an entire page dedicated to pet insurance AND this problem with Halifax/Lloyds etc.
There is also a sub-section on Harley/MSE thread specifically.
I saw that, but they didn't really have any useful advice which was a bit disappointing. Just raising awareness, more than anything. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I have just claimed for a allergy test for my lab costing 600 pound on a Halifax lifetime policy which now leaves us high and dry regarding anything to do with that on future policy's I'm still yet to hear wether or not there going to honour the claim but if they do I will for sure be claiming for every possible treatment I can in the remaining 8 months I have been told by the vet there is desensitise jabs available which could stop or reduce the allergies but are very expensive so if Halifax except the claim for the tests they will have to pay the treatment so go on Halifax make my day0

Our pups 4 free weeks with petplan are now coming to an end and i have been getting quotes from just about everyone. Pets at home come in at £11.20 a month for £4000 pets fees per year with £75 excess. Alot of them quote an excess then so much % of total fees. They may be worth looking at and you get a £20 pets at home voucher for every new policy.:beer:0

Just a thought, what with all the mis-selling of PPI's, have we been mis-sold these insurance policies? Are there any legal peeps out there that can look into it?0

Just spoke to a lady in the RSPCA to let them know and she said she would pass it on so hopefully it may highlight the situation on the website etc0 -
Just got a letter in from Halifax/BDML telling me they are looking into my complaint.
I wont be holding my breath.
So alternative insurance - John Lewis (who are underwritten by Axa)or Axa direct?
Tried Petplan but their quote was very expensive (£24 for Classic Cover and £31 for Ultimate per month) and the worry is that they may increase again next year.
John Lewis were £207 per year (£17 a month) for £7,000 of cover, Axa were £168 per year ( £14 a month) for £7000 of cover.
Similar policies unsurprisingly. Are one any better to deal with than another?
Argos similar policy and price but it's almost the identical policy we had with the Halifax, same Agria underwriter, same BDML managed policy. Only difference is the name. I wont go with them on a point of principle.0 -
Hi all
Just found this site and i too have had my dog insurance canc from next week when up for renewal, i had to find out in the sunday mail after reading the article and i was absolutely disgusted as i thought pet insurance was renewable for life not when they think they can pull the plug, my westie is 3yrs old and suffers from skin and anal glands problems for which i have claimed most of his life already so i am very concerned what the next years will bring with him, i took out insurance hoping i would never have to worry 'can i afford to take him to the vet' and i took out the xtra policy so that £6000 renewed every policy year for peace of mind, i have phoned around to try and get him alternate cover and yes they will take him on but not for his pre existing conditions which is no help, i have complained to the insurance ombudsman but won't hold my breath, i phoned halifax and complained but again waste of time, just read another post on here that somebody else complained through email and has been offered £5000 compensation so not sure how they managed this or whether its even true but would like to find out if it is, as i feel we all should get compensated for our inconvenience to our beloved pets!!!0 -
Strongly advise anyone to take out pet insurance with a company that also underwrite the policy. The problem is that if the scheme owner ie halifax pull out the whole thing fails, unless another underwriter can be found, At present this is unlikely due to losses in pet insurance industry.
I think there are only 2 pet insurance that fit this bill. Morethan (Royal sun alliance) and Petplan( Alianz).
Before you take the policy out get in writing the answer to this question " if I continue to pay my premium each year will you guarentee to renew my policy and cover me for life irrespective of the conditions my pet has" We could have just narrowed the choice to one.
My vet has a very big practice, and tells me the only time petplan have ever quibbled was when one of his customers was trying a fast one on. Ps I don't work for petplan, I just don't want people to be left stranded when another company decide pet insurance is not for them.0 -

I know this is no help tou your insurance woes but have you tried a raw diet for your lad? My cocker has the same problems with his anal glands which I control by giving him raw chicken wings. He skin is kept under control with arden grange lamb and regular use of malasab shampoo. I have heard of many reports of an improvement in the skin condition when switching to raw0 -
The quote from the company they are passing the business on to was ridiculous! Double what we were paying with Halifax.
We have switched to PDSA - funnily enough it is all still through BDSL - which is slightly cheaper than Halifax was for £7000 cover for each condition. £10 a month for our Ragdoll and £7 a month for our Ragdoll/Maine Coone cross (both 4 years old). Luckily we had no pre-existing conditions - the only thing they have ever had is ear mites when they were kittens and once when one of then ate a flower and started drooling.0
